Some people are trying to manipulate the fact that, by the time BG EE was to be released a cloud of negative opinions was in the air. And they are using the ancient tool of propaganda to make their lies believable.
But it's simple logic that makes probable that only the seller of the vanilla version of BG and other old but still well selling titles are about to lose when new editions of the titles go out from a possible antagonist like beamdog. Ιnstead the other parts that can benefit from the new releses are the gamers that will have more options for purchase.
Τhe treacherous persons are willing to trash the new version so there will be no more game remakes and the old sellers can still milk the cow.
But we know them and we will expose their ill deeds asap.

What I like in EE:
-new content
-BG2 engine (sure, this was already done by mods)
-zoom mode (full zoom is bury, but option to scale a bit is nice)
-interface that make sense for high res screens (and won't kill my eyesight)
What I dislike:
-new videos
-bugs
*journal is full of the bugs
*some stat values added with EE UI are calculated incorrectly
*new content has some scripting issues (for ex. repeating dialogue for Neera, quest not completing correctly)
I'm still having a blast playing it, and hopefully patches will fix my dislikes.

Regarding Intel cards, I actually had no any serious issues with Intel HD3000 (Sandybridge) graphics in my laptop.
Only corruption I was getting was flickering at the first screen. Fixed by alt-tab.
Still, since its laptop with Optimus, I've changed game to use nVidia, just to be sure.

Check youtube.
What I dislike is their comics style and lack of animation.

The old videos were extremely low res and they didn't have access to the originals to make a higher res version.
I sort of enjoyed the Black Pits Arena - the banter with the enemy parties was pretty entertaining. Although a bit too easy - I used the default party and breezed right through. Killed the drow dude before he could trigger the beholder summon, lol.

Speaking of people spreading misinformation. The EE is not a remake. Something like XCOM is a remake. The EE is a re-release.

Basically I deleted everything inside, set it to launch in a window ( then I just just change it to full screen once it's open). I then run Vista SP1 compatibility mode on BGEE.exe (not baldur.exe) and run as admin
|
It's possible that some settings are not enabled if the ini is blank, possibly stuff like Hardware Acceleration. It could explain why the game doesn't run into issues when you do things that way.
This could potentially help them get closer to the specific settings/effects that are not supported very well (for now) by Intel, so I'm gonna send them your instructions just in case they didn't see your thread.
crossmr wrote: | rep buying broken?
According to an old BG chart, rep 4, needs 200 gold to go up a point. I went in to a church as a soldier went nuts on me and I lost rep, and donated 400 gp and still didn't get a rep point. wtf? |
The cost is high if you are very low or very high in reputation and low in the middle.
Rep 4, +1 rep (1000g)
Rep 5, +1 rep (500)
Rep 6 is 400g, Rep 7 is 200g.
You can see the table in BGEE's manual "Mastering Melee and Magic". Look for "Effects of Reputation and Alignement." (Rank 13 and 14 are inaccurate) |
Thanks apparently the table I found was completely wrong.. shouldn't I have gotten rep for solving the mines thing? I admit it's been a lot of years since I played this, but I haven't seemed to have gotten much good rep yet.

Ok, i hope the story is more complex than i think. Is it some villain that suddenly appeared (the one you see in the intro) set on destroying or conquering the world and you need to find a band of heroes to stop him! If this is correct i honestly can't see why it ever became so popular.

Still having fun with this but I am really missing the 3.5 edition D&D rules as seen with a modded Temple of Elemental Evil.
There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Wasn't ToEE using 3.5 by default?
(Then again yeah mods would be useful for getting those last bugs out, probably also tweaks the rules a bit, integrates them better and such, what do I know, I really liked that game though.)

Hijacking a bit the thread, Troika had three games made and all are considered to be cult games. From Arcanum to TOEE to Bloodlines, Troika managed in its short existence to be as relevant for the RPG medium as Black Isle was before them (yeah, i know that the founders and many of the Troika's employees were ex-BI).
There are countless of great RPG's made at the end of the eighties and 'til late nineties - early 2k. But very few are as relevant as the ones made by BI/Troika
Back to the thread. I really dislike the new videos. But Atari being retarded as usual and couldn't be bothered to procure the original material, Overhaul made some new crappy ones.
And thing is: BGEE looks like a quick cash nostalgia cow for the failing Atari. As peter980 said: maybe after some patching is done, i might find it decent for a quick run. Mostly for the new content. But right now, i don't feel beta-testing Overhaul's product.

We should have been told about this way earlier : "put this into your baldur.ini file: 'Graphics', 'Scale UI', '0',"
Without the scaling, the UI is a more appropriate size. I now like it a lot more than before. It looks slightly sharper by being downsized (especially the background) and the new size works well. It's slightly bigger than the old UI, but small enough to not be distracting.
The game also now defaults at the resolution you use, meaning that if you're at 1920x1080 it WILL be zoomed way out, but you can still make use of the zoom feature in the game. This works perfectly to find the size you want and change it as you please (as it should be).

For reminders, Interinactive's screenshot with widescreen mod : http://www.coflash.com/stuff/bg.png
Fuck, that's the first thing they should have told us to do. I'm guessing it's "beta" since the other screens in the game don't stretch to fill up the space opened by the higher resolution.

Doesn't matter, still better to play it this way.

Aww yeah! Now the zoom is actually useful.
Hope they at least center those ui screens.

I've done this and nothing seems to have changed. I just added it after movies nashkell 1 inside the brackets.

I added it after Windows Maximized.
Like this :
INSERT INTO options ROWS (
'Window', 'Full Screen', '1',
'Window', 'Maximized', '0',
'Graphics', 'Scale UI', '0',

Remove the quotation mark ( " ) at the end if you forgot.
It works fine.

BG1 had a crappy storyline to be honest. It had great characters though and awesome banter... but what sucks you in the combat. Just satisfying in every way, making sure your mages and clerics are using the right spells, positioning your fighters on the front lines, etc. Gibbing gnolls with Minsc never gets old. Plus, finding new loot and greatly enhances your characters.
BG2 though, amazing, epic plot and story progression... and over the top magic items.

Or added it as an in-game option. After all, wasn't this supposed to be an enhanced edition?

Once it's working properly, yes, that's what they'll do.
In the meantime, it's better to keep it in the ini so people know they're messing with something that isn't ready yet.
