Best game of the year? Dishonored, without question.
Far Cry 3 is a good runner up, with Sleeping Dogs as a bonus.

Dishonored
Borderlands 2
Sleeping Dogs
But that could change after I play Assassin's Creed III, though I reckon that for it to happen the game has to be much better than ACII and Brotherhood.

1) Dishonored
2) Max Payne 3
3) Far Cry 3
(Honorable mentions to XCOM, The Walking Dead, , Torchlight 2 and Legend of Grimrock, and Black Mesa of course).
The flops:
1) Mass Effect 3
2) Of Orcs and Men
3) All the military shooters
Other games were just underwhelming for me, and I'm referring to Hitman (because of some really stupid 'design' decisions), Borderlands 2 (enjoyable in small doses but way too repetitive) and Dark Souls (same reason as B2).

I'm not sure about that. I've read kind of mixed opinions. Also, I hope you're not talking about the supposed technical problems of the game right? Cause I already played the whole Haytham section of the game and didn't experience any issues at all. Game runs and looks excellent all maxed out.

Not to be an ass garus, but did you even play AC3, or are you still relying on your brother's (or friend's ? I don't remember) opinion on it?
AC3 is definitely the best in the franchise so far, it's almost equal to AC1 when it comes to atmosphere too.
