All this talk about G3 up in here is making me want to play it again with the latest community patch.
MAYBE AFTER I FINISH MY FALLOUT RUN.
But yes, I agree with G3 still being enjoyable even though it's a buggy mess.

It's not bad, but not as good as it could have been. My main complaint is the too thinly streched story (maybe the Community Story Project will change that). Still it's miles better as a Gothic and as a game than Arcania.

Its crap. Button mashing crapfest. Free roam world with nothing worth roaming for. Crappy plot/progression, so sad because G3 coulda been great. It coulda been a contenda.

I disagree.
Its not worse than other open-world-RPGs out there. After you got the ship I did like the freedom to explore all the areas very much. Exploring is fun and there are far more items to find and to use than in Risen 1. Sure, the linear story is boring and fantasy-cliche and what I did not like about the setting was that the so-called pirates are far too "kiddie-friendly" and harmless portrayed. No dark characters, no cruelty, no violence. I presume that has to do with the youth protection, anti-violence regulations and internal censorship in Germany, otherwise the game could have been legally only sold to adults limiting the possible commerial success (but it was a huge bestseller in Germany as far as I know).
The fighting system is not the best and frustrating in the beginning (but no, its not as horrifying as unpatched Gothic 3), but it gets better the more you proceed and have more choices to use different weapons and magic (voodoo) in the game. There is enough freedom to solve quests in different ways and you feel more powerful advancing in the different skills. The boss fight is a joke, admitted - but at least you can WIN this game (I am writing this since I just gave up "Dark Souls" after more than 100 hours, since I have no chance to beat the final boss even with level 91... )

Learn to block and counterattack properly. That was thea easiest way to kill the last boss in DS.

It's been confirmed in the english speaking community too that they are working on a new project, but so far, that's all we know. |
Whatever it is, count me very interested.

I've been running through Gothic 3. Im a staunch hater of it (as i posted before) but im bored so, figured what the hell. It's not bad, as long as you dont go melee. Melee is a travesty with or without the CP. Still stand by what i said about nothing worth exploring for. All the chests in the game are packed with generic, crap loot like soup ladles and empty potion bottles etc.

Wouldnt mind a new Risen as long at they make the combat better, would also help if they make the environments a bit more diverse. Some of the game design choices with Risen 2 were truly horrible, its even hard to understand what the hell were thinking..
A new Gothic with inspiration from Dark Souls (the combat more specifically), that would be amazing.. but they seem to be going in the complete opposite direction, easier combat, more light hearted than Gothic etc. Too bad really.

Fixed. Because I sure as hell don't want another Arcania or anything even slightly resembling it.

I don't know if you know that arcadia was made by a different developer. It's remarkable how many who makes this mistake.

Im impressed with the graphics too. No constant stuttering anymore either (on my SSD anyways). Tip: turn off overglow, HDR, turn on color gradient or whatever that option is to make it look more like Gothic and less like Oblivion. Unfortunately the combat is mostly unchanged, but this time I went with fire magic and am one or two shotting everything instead of madly clicking left or right mouse button.

Gothic 3 is interesting for a while but i've never finished it. It's too bad none of the Gothic games has any interesting loot, i think it's an integral part of open world games that invites you to explore. Well ok the teleporter stones are quite nice to find, but other than that.. A mod that could improve the games greatly, more than even the combat improvements, would be to rebalance the economy and maybe gear + add interesting loot.
