My turn... I need a 40" ledlcd (don't care about 3d) that can play 1080p mkvs with built in subs.

Suggestions? Biggest chain in country went bankrupt and tomorrow they open the doors to a megasale (I already have my king kong outfit aired and ready).

My trusty old 29" Sony trinitron has shown signs of dying on me for a while now. I guess it's time for me to join the HD generation.

I've heard good things about the Bravia EX720 (not seen it in person though), the only 40" TV I can come up with off the top of my head Razz

Checked flatpanelshd.com and/or digitalversus yet?

I don't think it plays mkv-s. Or is this fixable?

I went to a competing store and checked out a model I liked. The LG wasn't that expensive (well, it was expensive but not compared to the Samsung Series 8 8005 I was looking at).
LG 42LW650W. Trying to figure out if it can play .mkv 1080p files but none of the specs I've found about any led-telly says anything specific like that, they just say "2 x USB 2.0 (MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, JPEG)".

When I want to know some accurate specifications, I normally check if there's a manual available for download. People often overlook those, but it helps a great deal. Although for some manufacturers the manuals aren't really that great, I find what I am looking for more often than not.
In this particular case:
Quote:

.mkv
Video
Codec:
H.264 / AVC
Profile/Level support:
Main Profile@ Level 4.1
High Profile@ Level 4.1
(e.g. 720p60, 1080i60, 1080p30)

Audio
Codec:
HE-AAC
Profile/Level support:
HE-AAC-LC and HE-AAC

Codec:
Dolby Digital

So it seems that you are fine on the video side of things, but most of the 1080p mkv-s are encoded with DTS, which doesn't seem to be supported. With that said, DD 5.1 encodes are often available as well.

Might be worth the hassle to grab a PS3 as well, for the great media server

40" = too small

why not get something you can actually see 1080p detail on?

Same in my town. In pouring rain (lots of umbrellas...) most people coming out with nothing (not realising the good stuff went within 30 minutes after the store opened). Wink

42"... And it's big enough for me, I don't have a huge living room. 1920*1080p should show off 1080p detail quite nice actually, no up/down/rescaling.

The one I went to here (Gothenburg) had a lot of nice TVs, even in the afternoon. Mostly bigger ones though, like 60" and similar.

I snagged a mouse(Logitech MX) and a pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD408) at 70% off. Very Happy

We finally got this baby about 2 weeks ago:

For a lot cheaper though Wink

It really is an amazing TV, not only does it support mkv/mp4/avi + sub/srt/txt when you plug the USB in it, but it also supports wifi. Just today I watched Bourne Supremacy when I just shared a 1080p version with eng subtitles on my PC, and watched it on the TV with no FPS drops or worse quality. The screen is pretty decent too Very Happy

How is the TV now after some time? I do have an old Samsung 40" TV now, and there is 1 thing i absolutely hate about it. I have 1 button to switch between hdmi 1 and 2, compontent etc and can't simply select the channel i want like a decent TV would.

Thinking about buying "Samsung 46" UE46EH5305"

Anyone know anything about that TV? I don't have a clue about TV's Razz

I got myself one of these a couple of months back - love it and it's great for streaming from your pc to the telly. Seem to be able to handle most formats apart from iso.

The E8000 seems like one of the best LCD TVs out right now. But I think this also comes with a "nice" price tag Smile
It's interesting that it's edge-lit though. Seems Samsung doesn't like them full array?

Got my LG 47" 3D LED LCD today. Finally no more straining my eyes trying to watch movies on my monitor from bed Very Happy

Loving the 3D so far. Been trying to get games running on it so I can play with my xbox controller, and it works, but nvidias 3D support is pretty limited, with a lot of games exhibiting artifacts, or the 3D effect just isn't pronounced enough.

Checked the nvidia page and apparently it only "truly" supports about 25 games, none of which I have installed atm. The 3D preview that was available from nvidia looked frigging amazing though, much better effect than 3d movies. Looking forward to future support.

Although I primarily got it for movies & my 360, it will be sweet to play a bit of 3D PC games on it as well.

Samsung TVs seem to have extreme bleeding. Almost everyone around me buys a Samsung TV (they look hot I guess) so I've pretty much seen every high-end Samsung TV.

Sony's releasing this new model at end of April http://www.sony.lv/product/tv-102-40-lcd/kdl-40r470a

550$...What do you guys think?...the Component/Euroconnector is something important for me to record specifc Output stuff from the TV (got one of those Euroconnectors with component plugs thingy...with a "IN/OUT" switch)..

I was about to buy a KDL40HX750 for 900$ (Or less depending of my job's discounts),but all i heard is bad stuff about the audio and some WiFi functions..

Would be replacing my actual TV, a KDL22EX302B or something at the end of the year

...Anyone?

Also, would these new TVs have the "Red Yellow White" (Composite) cable INPUT ?..i know there's the Euroconnector in some of them, but Composite's important for me to record some ol' stuff....Also the euroconnector's important...

The thing is,i haven't seen any reviews out there, not even on Digitalversus..

Now looking between 32-36" TVs from Sony and/or other trustworthy brand, but Sony mainly..dunno,has something special
