I don't feel any guilt for pirating, but I'll buy genre-specific games (on sale) just to encourage more games being developed in those genres, even if I'm not planning on playing them.

Any game I've enjoyed, I'll pick up at some point.

Only recent exception to the on-sale rule: Skyrim Smile

Orcs Must Die
GTA IV
Alien/Zombie Shooter
AvP
Skyrim
Orange Box
Mass Effect 2

I also put down money for several Kickstarter games; love the premise of it, just hope they all come through.

I know that I'm the exception, but basically the 90% of the games that I own.

I always play and finish the ISOdemos first, and then buy the games later when they're on sale (Steam, GOG doesn't matter Razz), it happened with countless of titles like Deus Ex: HR, Witcher 2, Risen, Legend of Grimrock, the Stalker games, all the GTA games, the Valve games etc.

The Witcher.

i bought it almost straight away and replayed it, I also bought copy's for friends Very Happy

The Witcher 2 on the other hand I bought straight away and was horrified and I have never finished it Sad
I also pirated The Witcher and later bought it. The second one I bought when it was released and I finished it. I've never finished the first one (started it four times) since I can't get past the shitty combat. Tried some mods, but none of them fixes the stupid fighting system. I do believe people who say the first one is better (storywise I think) but I love Witcher 2.

Shame on me, I didn't buy Hotline Miami but I probably will for the sequel and its level editor.

The last game i bought for the good cause was dragon age.
EA showed it's grattitude with dragon age 2. Now I only buy games for multiplayer or an indie game once in a while.
I don't feel sorry for devs, their intend is profit. I've people refuse to pay 50$/euro for a game, it is their problem to solve. Good games will be made anyway in the future.

After reading this thread, it seems that a lot of us buy games when they're at a reasonable price.

I am sure something similar has existed, but I can't remember what - but wouldn't a monthly subscription thing work better? Like, pay something like oh, I dunno, $9.99 p/m and play whatever games we would like to?* That way, game companies would get regular payments and developers might even get a cut too?

Fantasy Wars
Elven Legacy
Majesty 2

I bought them after I finished them, and I've barely touched them since. But I always buy games if I enjoy them, and these three stood out, especially the first two. I wish there where more games like that.

Samorost 2, Machinarium (twice) and Botanicula. Basically all what Amanita did except first Samorost. Deserves every cent.

Metro 2033 & World Of Goo would be the others.

Haha.. that guilt is the only reason i do buy games Very Happy
When i find myself 3-4-5-10 days later still enjoying the game (total war and disciples series), when i feel like a certain game was made with more love than money in mind (the witcher series), when a game is too awesome for me not to repay the devs back (mass effect1) or when i feel like a certain game was made just for me (dark souls, stalker) thats when the guilt kicks in and i feel bad and buy it Very Happy
