shame that some titles got the boot, at least some writing cred for Spec Ops The Line, Max Payne 3 should be right there with best graphics imo (game also had a rocking soundtrack)
graphics artistically, Dishonored and Journey, the rest didn't really stand out
some great mods this year

Amazing Also, zomg 360 running at 2560 x 1440 resolution. Boy, consoles have been keeping up with PCs, that's for sure!

ME3 can be considered best RPG. This year didn't have any RPG I would rate more than 6,5/10. Not even "RPG-like" games like D3.
Well it was shitty year for RPG's. And thats quite stranhe becouse it was quite a good year overall.

Yea ME3 being RPG of the year is not surprising, the only RPG better this year is DS and THAT will never be GOTY for IGN.

Even Far Cry 3 is a better RPG than ME3.

Right. Except Legend of Grimrock, Risen 2 and Game of Thrones were all better RPGs. Hell even Kingdoms of Amalur was better, and that one was an MMO turned into an ARPG.

I'd actually agree about GoT, but no site like IGN would ever. Risen 2 was a big let down imo, and ME3 was a decent RPG until the end. It pretty much was the only AAA RPG released this year.

Well from what I can see they rated console games and Halo 4 is one of the best looking console titles as I understand thus it got the graphics reward.

yeah, you guys should know by now, that they judge games exclusively on consoles and never the pc versions.
And about me3 ... its a default win. What else is there ?

Dark Souls is 2011 game and got 2011 awards. I don't see why shoddy port of 2011 game should receive best RPG of the 2012 award. This year indeed was a crappy year for rpgs so i can see why even Mass Effect 3 would get this year's best rpg award.

I'm surprised they seem to know of the existence of Xenoblade Chronicles, but still manage to put Mass Effect 3 above it in the RPG list. I guess I just shouldn't even try to comprehend that.

Journey was as much a game as Heavy Rain (this is probably a terrible comparison) was, I suppose. Probably less so given the length and unusual gameplay, but I can see it getting multiple GOTY's. It's one of those "games as art" things.

To each his own, I guess. I enjoyed Risen 2 very much, but I couldnt finish ME3. It just felt somehow off comparde to the two before.

One thing is for sure, if ME3 is considered a role playing game, then any shooter with some rudimentary inventory/upgrade system and dialogues should be put in that category as well. So yes, Dishonored should be the best RPG of 2012.
