XCOM for me too; extremely entertaining (and addicting) despite the 'accessibility'. Very Happy

CK II. Hadn't touched a Paradox strategy for a long while prior to trying this little gem. Had forgotten how good and unforgiving one of them could be. Very Happy

CK2 as well. XCOM was a contender for a bit, but remembering all the amazingly complex scenarios CK2 managed to come up with was lightyears above what Firaxis' buggy mess ever did.

Feel like reinstalling again. Very Happy

quite liked Fallen Enchantress, was a bit like Civ but with unicorns.. however have spent the most time with XCOM, fun fun game but wish there was a whole lot more of it Crying or Very sad

edit:not played CK2 but it did look interesting, was on the UK steam store as the mid-week deal today. £11.99 for the complete package.

Just goes to show that there were no good strategy games this year imo... Why oh why no new normal AOE, but AOE online instead Sad

None. Dawn of War II + the first expansion for me actually. It's the only strategy game I managed to finish and absolutely loved and I did play it this year, so...

CKII, without a doubt, as it requires actual strategy.

Well, true, but if I have to pick from the list, I take Shogun.

CK2.. but looking at the score XCOM is leading.. Maybe strategy genre should be split up as are first person and third person perspective. What I mean by that is turn based should be different from real time

Fallen Enchantress for me, with crusader kings 2 as a close second.

I find it disgusting to even mention xcom as a contender to strategy of the year, let a lone the clear winner. But thats just me

Perhaps next year, we could get those threads stickied? They seem to get buried at the end of the day

I would have picked XCOM, until it decided to bug out on the last mission, making it in-completable, effectively ending my perfect Classic Ironman Mode run just before the finish line.
