Acts 1 and 2 of Risen are great and definitely worth playing, but forget about acts 3 and 4. GoT is horrendous.

No it's not. They patched it well, the graphics are decent to great, and the story is fantastic. Overal it's better game.

Yeah, see... I can understand some saying they didn't like GoT, but saying it's a horrible game is really misleading northern7. It's really not, it's a fantastic game. One of the best RPGs we've had in years, but it seems to be quite a niche game because it wasn't made with billions of dollars and it didn't have some big ass marketing campaign.

Guy_Incognito, is it worth trying the game again with the latest patch? My opinion is based on the original release, and apart from the great story I thought the developer had everything wrong.

If you thought it was horrendous, no amount of patching can change that.

GoT for me although it's a very rough diamond.

Well if you totally hate that semi-turnbased KotOResque combat, then no patching will help, but I played with patch 1.3 and I found the game quite satisfying. Btw, fighting in Risen feels way worse to me, it has that old Gothic feeling where characters move and fight like they have sticks up to their butts.

Yeah, GoT is great as long as you can overlook its shortcomings. I bought it straight after finishing isodemo, which is unusual for me since I usually wait for sales Very Happy

That said, I agree that both should be in the RPG library eventually Smile

thank you for the feedback, gentlemen. Smile
I think i will go with Risen atm as I enjoyed Gothic 2, but will wait it out and maybe get 75% off (with a little luck, maybe get it and Chivalry for $15 - which is my remaining budget (prays to the steam gods)).

thanks again (and will put GoT on my more distant radar too).

@northern7 , how about trying both games as "ISO demo" and play a little bit off each game and the one to your liking buy it away and DELETE the iso demos Everything Went Better Than Expected
