360 is a great pad, EXCEPT for the dpad which is a dealbreaker for me. im fine with my wireless ds3

I can't believe you're the first one to mention the horrendous d-pad Neutral Tho mind you, the PS3 controller's triggers are not much better Sad

I'd still go with the 360 pad because i don't really use the dpad all that often other than changing weapons or various trivial tasks in games (as opposed to attempting to play fighting games on it).

There's no argument to be had here. The only real choice is the 360 controller. It's just better than all the rest not only ergonomically, it's natively supported in almost everything now. And build quality wise it's top notch.

Is the dongle reliable enough for long gaming sessions ..?

Ive never really been a fan of bluetooth or wireless .. old habits die hard I think as I more or less have everything wired Very Happy

I have a wireless controller but never really looked into it deeply enough as of yet..

Yeah, works fine as long as you have some charged batteries, but that has nothing to do with the dongle.

Mine has fallen from the desk at least 5 times and apart from some little cracks is still rocking like its young days, with proper vibration and all.

It should read Official MS Wired Pad were as the receiver option is for when you would like to use the receiver and a wireless Xbox pad for PC gaming..

XBOX 360 Wireless Controller for Windows is the way to go. I use energizer rechargeable batteries and they last forever it seems. You can get them for about $45 from NewEgg I think.

I see that people don't like the DS3 shoulder buttons and the 360's d-pad. But, I don't see why. What are the specifics?

The 360 d-pad feels mushy and a lot of times registers the wrong button that you meant to press. For example in Dark Souls sometimes when I try switching my weapon it instead switches my equipped item.

ds3 shoulder buttons, especially l2 and r2 are crap. u dont have the right feeling when pressing them. 360s dpad is crap because unmodified its not possible to make fast inputs without triggering a wrong direction (makes fighting games almost unplayable). limited edition 360 controllers (chrome series) have switchable dpads. and after playing a few years with a 360 controller i think the ps3 analog sticks are to big and the placement on the pad of the 360 one is much more userfriendly. soon i have to replace my wired 360 pad, maybe just gonna buy a wireless receiver (got three other wireless controller for the box). but on ebay these are all fakes, so no official ms ones and on amazon they only cost 10 euro less than the pack with the controller and the receiver...

It's not XInput though, so if someone is looking to buy himself a pad right now - it's bad advice Razz

I didn't say it was good advice to buy it now. Just that it does everything I need with all the games (old and new) that I play with it and that ditching it for something else would be totally unnecessary and bad value Wink

They improved the 360 controller d-pad on the latest version of the wireless controller. Way better now. The shitty part is that they haven't updated the wired version for some retarded reason. So if you buy wired you still get the old shitty dpad.

Nope. I had Razer Onza. Shit broke after 6 months. The D-pad was even worse then the one in M$ and triggers were to big for my small fingers. The plastic used in it had that cheap feeling all over it.

Any pad with XInput support should work (and that should be pretty much every recent gamepad out there) - games will see it no differently than a 360 pad.

It's best to check the specs for the pad in question. I know for sure Logitech pads are like that (except for the older ones), haven't really looked into others.

Edit: Apparently not all gamepads are into Xinput, so, again, it's best to make sure Smile
