Just play it. Most fanboys tend to extreme exaggeration when describing the game to make themselves feel special. The game is just trail&error and you'll get quite comfortable with it as soon you figured out the mechanics from a technical point of view (which most of the fanatics lack anyway). It's not rocketscience, even though people want to make you believe it is. Under it's Japanese shell lies a terrific RPG experience at it's core.
And don't forget to use the fix.

And to the people who may feel offended by my opinion about the series (again!)... well, too bad Laughing

I was never interested in RPGs but this game really makes me consider Amazon's deal. Also I have Skyrim but haven't tested it yet but this looks even more interesting.

Skyrim is more like a sightseeing experience. The combat is forgettable, so if you are not into RPGs, Skyrim would be a poor choice. DS on the other hand, can be played like an Action game with progression, much quicker in its pace, and takes a lot more skill than Skyrim.

Haha actually it's one of the most accurate descriptions of the game that I've ever read. grinhurt

It's because we're so used to modern button-awesome arrrr pi gees these days, that anything slightly resembling the golden days makes us go in awe. Razz

This game do sound more interesting but I'm not sure is the price worth the hassle to make it run on my PC.

I'm using 1920x1200 resolution and I would like to play it in 60fps not 30. Hardware shouldn't be an 'issue' (2500K @ 4.8GHz, overclocked GTX 670, 16GB RAM, Vertex 4 256GB SSD etc..).

If you already have a controller, then it is not really a hassle. Just download the fix, extract it to the directory, edit the config and you are done, takes less than 5 mins. If you DON'T have a controller, it will be a hassle, and I guess it is up to you if you want to tweak the mouse settings.

Skyrim's combat can be improved with mods. In any case, regarding DS, it certainly has some kind of charm, but I just can't understand how people enjoy that kind of gameplay. You replay big chunks of the game every time you die. And you die a lot, so you just replay the same parts so many times its painful. I just don't find the fun in that. It would be so much better if you could concentrate on the specific challenge that got you killed, not replay the previous 10 minutes every time.

Amazon sells Steam keys, you can buy on US Amazon with a fake US address, it doesn't have to match your cc address.

You can register and log-in to Amazon US, change your address and buy it, no matter where you are. And Dark Souls can be registered on Steam, no matter where you buy it.

Also, this Really. Needs. To. Be. Stickied. Very Happy

I have 2 XBOX 360 Wireless controllers so it's not up to that either. Smile How about region locks? If I buy this from Amazon.com (I have $5 coupon aswell) can it be activate from European IP?

The same with any game with a limit lives? Mario comes to mind? Rogue likes? Iron man mode? You don't even lose your gear in this game on death, think about the games before. Some design of those games were because they were arcade games, the games were meant to be cheap and trial and error. While DS retains some of the trial and error aspect, mind you there are always hints in the world to prepare you for any "cheap" deaths.

DS really is not as much as difficulty, but tough. By that I mean to figure out the plan of attack, whether it is to tackle the group just around the corner, or navigating new areas, is not hard. But to execute it requires finesse, concentration and patience. Because the notion that you know what you need to do in most cases, this gives the player the motivation to try again.

@escalibur
Sorry I don't know anything about region locking. But I would assume as long as GFWL works in your country, the game would work.

If you bought any of those discounted Amazon games in December you got a 5$ coupon for the editor's choice games this month. So that brings Dark Souls down to 13$.

Like i said so many times before, the ability to save your progress at any time ruins 90% of the games.. Dishonored? What finesse what concentration what patience? Run dur dur into 5 npcs smashing X on your gamepad, die over and over again and complain when the game punish you for being terrible.
