What about the resolution? Something wrong with playing xbox 360 titles starting at 720i (1280x720) and up to 1080i (1920x1080)?

the newer breed of console will totally bury any high end pc for gaming atm and for a while at least. The PC market is just crazy atm, but thats what you get for being on the cutting edge of technology one month u buy an x800 the next SLi geforce 7800 comes out it all comes as a price. But the problem withPC gaming as i see it is you're paying alot for very little. Of the 2 or 3 games that come out that do anything good with the technology before something new hits the market its insane. PC gaming is becoming more and more a niche for enthusiasts and less for the average consumor. Of course there are some (just look above) who refuse to accept that a) console games can be really good fun (which is the point of playing games right?) and b) the amount of titles coming out for PC gets worse and worse. Online console gaming is going to be huge in the next year or so. I love my pc games, i'm enthusiastic about upgrading when i feel i need to but the rate the pc industry is evolving atm i think for most people its more prudent to spend $300 for 5 years of gaming that $1000 for a system thats old in 12 months

For me I just prefer playing PC games. I like the keyboard & mouse and if that doesn't work I have a Logitech controller which is exactly like a PS2 controller. I have an xbox, PS2, and gamecube but I'm not on them as much. Sometimes I'll be bored and wanna play a game so I'll buy one for the PC....even though I have like a ton to finish for my consoles (and hell I haven't even put one in my PS2 yet and I bought it in May). I just feel more comfortable playing games on my PC for some reason. I'll be getting Xbox 360 and PS3. I'll probably be the only one of my friends who gets Call of Duty 2 and Quake 4 for the PC instead of the xbox 360. Then again that's a no brainer. FPS games on a controller suck. Keyboard & mouse is 1000 times better. I feel like I'm a robot using a controller. The past 3-4 years my favorite game of the year has been for the PC. 2004-HL2. 2003-Max Payne 2. 2002-Mafia. I'd take a couple of fantastic & GREAT games over like 10 good games. Although this year I'll have to say consoles have been doing better. I LOVED RE4 & God of War. Best games of the year so far.
I recently spent around $700+ upgrading my comp this summer. New case ($100), new motherboard ($100), new processor ($146), more ram ($90), new video card ($280), dvd-burner ($50). Basically the only thing I didn't replace was one cd drive and my hard drives. I went from 1.4 ghz to 3. 512 ram to 1 gb. Geforce FX 5600 to 6800GT.

John Carmack said it in his Quakecon Keynote.
He also warns that Xbox 360 technology is not "as powerful as it sounds"
In comparison to high-speed AMD/Intel system, X360 runs about half as fast.

I bet you do, seeing as you obviously have something against consoles.
So, you got a link to Carmack saying that stuff?

no im ok with consoles , its just the hype about next gen consoles...
about they will be better as current pcs is every generation the same.
also the tech specs are often hyped , so its good so puts it in a realistic point of view.
the keynote is very long and he talks about a lot of technical stuff and nextgen consoles, but some things i found pretty interesting.

The Xbox 360 Version:
" Hollenshead has said that the Xbox 360 version is using all of the same assets as the PC version, but running at a slightly lower poly count.
First thoughts/impressions: Don't show the PC version of the game running widescreen at some insanely high resolution then kick over to the Xbox 360 running at 720p. It just isn't a fair comparison. "

I really dont see how this effects pc users really. The PC wasnt always ontop in terms of graphics power anyway. its only in the last 10 years or so its really taken the lead. I for 1 dont use the PC just for games so I dont see how something so versatile can be dead at the announcement of something in a different market all together.

overall, I don't see the new consoles as the end of PC gaming, but with the improvements offered by the new consoles, average joe will rather cash out $400 on the 360 and play quake 4 then $2000+ for a pc that will run it at high settings, that's for sure ... of course this does not apply to a lot of us here because we are all into our pcs and upgrade and maintain all the time ... but you have to this of an average consumer who does not know anything about graphic cards etc and just wants to play the game bacause he saw it on tv or something ...
My reasons for beeing excited about the xbox 360:
- new toy ... always feels good to have something new to play with
- chance to finally see some good graphics on my bigscreen plasma ( games like halo2 etc are cool , but in compare to pc gaming, its just not good enough)
- fact that I got $300 in best buy gift certificates for my bday, so its only gonna cost me like $100 woohooo)
fuck ...

When one of the games in a series that almost defined PC gaming at one point is played by more people on consoles then on PC's, then you know somethings wrong.
Cartoon, I think you failed to grasp the concept of my post. It's not about PC users being unable to run a new game on max, it's about console users being able to play a better looking game then the majority of PC users.

Today Vivendi revealed plans to release a director's edition of Monolith's upcoming sci-fi/horror shooter F.E.A.R. This enhanced edition will include several extras such as: live action "Declassified" interviews with Alma, behind the scenes documentary video, developer's Roundtable Commentary video, F.E.A.R. machinima episodes, F.E.A.R. comic book created by Dark Horse Comics (in-box), a chance to win the "Golden Ticket" Sweepstakes (in-box), and all the F.E.A.R. installation files conveniently on one DVD-ROM

Thats an opportunity cost. It's still gonna cost you $400
Well most people who play games dont play them for graphics alone. I still think that consoles need a new input device for FPS games because they're just not as fun as on PCs.
edit: Also I really dont see how graphics card manufacturers can get awak with charging £300 for a card when a 'better' 1 can be bought in a console. They'll probably get away with it because of the different markets but still, I expect a drop in the cost of a newly released high end card.

so anyway back to F.E.A.R fellas
I for one am dubious about the optimisation of this engine, I was in the Beta and its got marginally better performance wise, and your talking to a guy with a P4 3.6, x800xt platinum, 2 gig Corsair ddr2 mem, audigy etc etc you get the picture and it runs ok, but not what I would expect I mean compared to the likes of Riddick and D3 etc etc, this engine seems very similar to riddick to me and yet it runs like a blind, drunk paraplegic

I tested it today on a 3.2 Dual Core Extreme edition, X850XT PE with 2gb DDR2 and it still got slow down on "new scenes" by that I mean it dropped from 50FPS to 30FPS but its still slow down ! Now I don't see this drop on my 9800Pro, so I have feeling its the X8 series of cards that are effected by this..
Its not bad, but it exists !
