http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Michael-Fassbender-to-Star-in-and-Co-Produce-Ubisofts-Assassins-Creed-Movie/10896
Quote: | Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed film project got a major boost of credibility today with news that Michael Fassbender will star and co-produce in the big screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
In the film, Fassbender will play a man kidnapped by a secret organization known as the Knights Templar. Through them he will learn his ancestors were master assassins, and be sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts and become an assassin himself.
The film's log line fits the game narrative which has sent its hooded hero through several European cities in a series of highly successful games. This fall, Assassin's Creed 3 will take the franchise across the Atlantic for the first time and into the American Revolutionary War.
Per Variety, Sony had initially planned to create a series of Assassin's Creed films but those plans never materialized. Instead, Ubisoft will develop the film independently through its UMP company in conjunction with Fassbender's DMC Film banner. Sony could theoretically end up distributing the finished project.
In addition to Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft is hoping to bring its Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon games to the big screen. The first project underway at Ubisoft and UMP is an animated version of its Raving Rabbids game that will debut as a new television series on Nickelodeon.
Most intriguing about the Assassin's Creed 3 announcement is that UMP will utilize Ubisoft's 26 game studios to develop and execute the visual effects to help keep costs down. Those studios have consistently proven themselves with high-quality cinematic work over the years. Just take a look at the Assassin's Creed 3 E3 trailer: |
I loved every Fassbender movie so far ( a really good young actor), so count me in.

Ubisoft taking over Hollywood, oh boy
Could be interesting though, at least the fact that the movie is produced internally should mean that it will be faithful to the games.

I'm more curious about Ghost Recon which is coming to the big screen, too. I'm expecting something along the lines of Act of Valor

I'd rather have a great actor who slightly fits the role than a shitty actor who does fit it.

Maybe, maybe not. Game-based movies usually have a lot of false starts before actually being made (or shelved for the nth time).
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

being a fanboy is not a mistake, it's a life choice
AC series have gone down hill. people aren't buying the parkour effect anymore. that's why they're adding useless worthless features into the game. but it's decent game. it's just repetitive to the bone.

It's weird... I'm a relatively huge TES and Fallout (yes, new Fallouts, deal with it ) fanboy but if news surfaced that they would be adapted into movies I would be the first one to

I think it has gone downhill with Brotherhood, but brought itself back up with Revelations and AC3, but again- it comes to a personal preference. I agree it's repetitive- but then again, so was GTA IV.And I actually kind of enjoy the repetitiveness of AC games. |
the problem of these types of games... gta / ac is that they take themselves too seriously. other devs have greatly improved on the gta formula. it's only a matter of time before someone takes the best aspects of ac and puts them to good use into some truly unique and wonderful gaming experience. but as it stands all we have right now is ac. and ac is really boring.
and yeah fassbender is a fantastic actor. but part of me thinks it's just it's a name attached but not the actor. y'know. in the end it'll be some other actor and some real shitty director and a lot of lol look at what gamers are playing... lets do the puzzle fly through like the do in the games... gamers love that.
ac movie should be a long ass epic that deals with both story lines. i wouldn't mind a matrix like trilogy. it would be pretty damn awesome. but it would suck if it's just a simple plot from a game that'll be resolved in less than 2 hours.
fallout games are easier to turn into movies. a lone gunman traversing across a post apocalyptic landscape following clues and trying to uncover something great.
and we already have tes movies uwe boll did them

I didn't know an AC movie was in the works until now and I like Fassbender, so why wouldn't I be happy?
I also like Assassins Creed, yes even the last one, so I have no problem with a possible movie.
Splinter Cell on the other hand has been complete and utter garbage since Double Agent, and I can already see Hardy wearing a facemask that makes him sound like a panther. |
urban did it. and urban did it good. what makes sc great is the story. all it needs is a burned spy finding a couple friends to help him take down whoever burnt him. or just something like commando. y'know... sc back then was all stealth and uber awesomeness but i don't remember much of the story. just the missions. in the end a sc movie will be about revenge and payback and a rescue mission.
hitman movie was ok. t.o was epic in it. but it wasn't a serious movie and pretty much everyone knew that it wasn't a serious movie. but for what it was it was entertaining.
