Little guide made by me, too! As I had to install this yet again (don't ask) I fortunately found that the process is WAY easier these days:
- 1. Install The Sims 3 main game and let it patch to latest (1.42 atm); somewhere along the line they unified the game patching so you don't need to separately patch all the damn EPs anymore. Don't bother with creating shortcuts for each EP - see step 4.
- 2. Install the expansion packs (and stuff packs if you want) - with the latest patch installed, there shouldn't be any prompts to update anymore so the installation is a lot faster overall (some expansions will say they'll need to be updated before playing, but that's not necessary anymore). And if you're like me and hate the fact each one insists on making their own folder, just have them point to a sub-folder within The Sims 3 (I used The Sims 3\Expansions\World Adventures etc.).
- 3. Get the nraas noCD like cheat2win said - it works even with the latest patch and should for the foreseeable future, it's a mod instead of an exe crack so you don't have to bother with that, ever. See here on how to install mods.
- 4. Play using the The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe like the noCD instructs you to - all the content from every EP/SP is included.
Optionally, at this point you can install all the Sims Store stuff if you want - rachelstoolbox maintains a complete & up-to-date collection of them (not hard to find with google), and most of them come in .package files so you don't have to deal with the god-awful launcher installer, just drop them to your mods folder. New towns and buildings are the only ones with .Sims3Pack filetype, these are installed with the launcher.
I also made a symbolic link so that all the crap that normally gets dumped into your documents folder is in your The Sims 3 folder; if you install all the store stuff, it can balloon in size and the system drive is no place for that. Here's the instructions if you want to do the same:
Spoiler: |
Quote: |
It is possible if you make a symbolic link.
First move the entire The Sims 3 folder to where you want. For example in D:\Sims3. Do not leave a The Sims 3 folder behind, if it is there the next step will fail.
Next open a command console with admin rights (UAC): 1. Click the Start button 2. Type CMD in the Start Search box 3. Press and hold down [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Enter]
Type mklink /J "C:\Users\you\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3" D:\Sims3 (remember quotes if your target folder has spaces)
This will make a junction (symbolic hard link) to D:\Sims3 from the original location. It will recreate the folder you moved in the first step, but now as a symbolic link. Think of this as a folder level shortcut.
Windows and all programs will think the files are still in documents, but in reality they will be in D:\Sims3 now.
If you already moved My Documents, use the new path instead of the C:\Users location. |

Can anyone confirm whether the RLD release has the Limited Edition crap? I don't want to install this on my own computer just to check that.

None of the sims 3 scene releases of any expansion pack have any limited edition stuff.

Store world actually, not officially an expansion. There are a couple of worlds sold through store. And Monte Vista was out in December (just look for that big sims 3 store torrent, as it's updated monthly).
Riverview (June 2, 2009)
Barnacle Bay (September 23, 2010)
Hidden Springs (August 25, 2011)
Lunar Lakes (February 16, 2012)
Lucky Palms (June 28, 2012)
Sunlit Tides (August 23, 2012)
Monte Vista (December 6, 2012)

I wouldn't mind giving this game another go, but the terrible official mod installer means, too much hassle. It'll take me the whole day to install all the stuff then realize not all of them were installed and the launcher would just freeze and I'll just shift-delete.

You can just get the decrapified monthly packs and dump them into the proper folder, only files you'll need to install through the installer are the additional towns. Of course if you install all the junk they've released, it'll make your load times terrible since the engine is kinda crap and was never meant to handle it all.

Yea it is either the insane load times or the tedious installer, I've chosen neither many times =/

Thanks inz for the comprehensive how to. The nraas nocd mod and all the other mods found there were a great help. I played the game for a few days and now I have scratched my sims 3 itch for the next year or two. =)

Scene Notes
============
We want to reply to your words SKIDROW The fact we released our proper
release 41 days after your crack simply has to do with the fact that our
members have a real life too and don't spend all their time playing each
and every game pred the day or week they are out. We did notice your
pathetic crack a few weeks afterwards when one of our members decided to
try the game, using your release. The entire proper crack for this release
was done in about two days and then thoroughly tested for two more. Your
reaction it is not suitable to release a proper after such a long time is
understandable but nevertheless it doesn't change the fact your release
screamed for a "crapfix", old doesn't mean forgotten
Next, you mix up a fact that a loader is technically the same like an
emulation and try to claim everybody is only releasing unclean cracks. What
was it about the evolution ladder guys? It seems your lab monkeys have
taken over the entire leadership of the group since the real SKIDROW died
in 1993. This can be the only reason you have come to the conclusion that a
modified startup flow is the same like the immitated behavior of a
protection, like an EMU does it
So say what you want, you can talk all day but the simple fact remains, you
made a pathetic excuse for a xlive crack that would make any true reverser
feel sick to his stomach. You then try to change the subject and move focus
(understandable as this must be embarrassing for you) to Steam CEG cracks
All those who are interested in the next generation of your famous work can
examine Hitman Absolution, here you really teach the whole scene about the
art of reversing by releasing an unmodifed protected exe (if you need proof
check the authenticode signature of the exe, signed by valve)
which is nothing but a 100% Authentic loader solution
We thought since you love the Sims series so much, here is another addon
also for you guys. Enjoy
