|
 |
Hi all,
I'm flying to London in about two weeks for a 5 days trip. I noticed its quite cold in this time of the year, around the 0 degrees Celsius.
As someone who lives in the middle-east I'm not really familiar with hanging out in such a cold weather for long periods of time. Since I would probably walking in the streets most of the time, I was wondering if maybe you guys in the colder areas of the world could help me out with figuring what kind of cloths to wear.
Pants - All of my pants are jeans. Should I were something beneath them like tights? Or this should do?
Shirts - Around here in the winter I usually wear a T-Shirt and a sweater above it. I guess I should switch to long-sleeved T-Shirts, but will that be enough?
Coats - Thin plastic/nylon coats.
People told me I should probably buy warmer coats, but I got no idea what exactly that means. Fur and leather coats are out of the question, so what else is there to wear? Just a thicker nylon coat?
Shoes - Snickers. Again leather shoes are out of the question, so what else can I switch to if needed?
Besides that it would be nice to know about recommended pubs, restaurants, and other cool places to see in London and around it. (As long as its not a long train trip)
Thanks!

not sure if serious...
jeans/t-shirt/good sweater and a good warm coat.. grab a wooly hat and some simple wool gloves, and you should be set. footwear pfft ur choice, but obviously not jesus creepers.
Go visit pubs in soho for enlightenment in the day, at night go out again for a totally different scary experience, do pass by the pussycat club, take some money :O.. dont be surprised by its 10x10 size once u get in and shady man behind curtain in corner, drinks are expensive lols...
Oh you must visit the science museum etc, you should be able to find leaflets on what is available to you at train stations and defo the airport service type places.

Fuck it. I wear underpants under the jeans in the winter, and then I wear them at home pretending I'm Charlie from 'it's always sunny in Philadelphia'.

Thanks guys for the info!
I wonder if it would be best to buy these things in London, maybe if there are special sales this time of the year.
Any recommendations for anything interesting and not so obvious to do in London or the area?
I usually rent a car and enjoy more in the country side when I travel abroad but this time I can't do it because I don't have enough time. But maybe we could take a train to some interesting location.
There's a different more authentic feeling in the countryside rather than in the city, and I'd like to feel it a bit without getting too far from London.

London is damn expensive, as long as you can take it on the plane without luggage weight issues I would buy it where you are.

hahaha, this is hilarious.
I live in Belgium, so we get same temperatures as in London. -5 in winter, sometimes (rarely though) -10. But usually somewhere around freezing.
Lesson 1: if it's cold, stay inside if you are a whiny girl. But if it's cold and rains, surely stay inside. I can take a lot of cold, but i cannot take cold and wet. Cold and wet toes or cold and rain, fucking shiiiiit.
Lesson 2: If you go out, and you are cold, put an extra layer on next time. Usually i wear a T-shirt or regular shirt, a pull over and a small coat. Now when it's colder, the shirts might become a tshirt and a regular shirt, a wool pull over or some hoodie, and a stuffed coat. Just put some extra layers on dude!
Lesson 3: Legs never get cold, fingers do get cold. So, jeans will be ok. If you are a whiny bitch, you could get some thermal underwear (long underwear). I bought one for 5 euros or so, but i use it only when i go skiing or ice climbing or something alpine very cold. regular underwear + long underwear + ski pants, yeah that's warm enough when it's -20 or more... 0 degrees C, jeans will be ok...
Lesson 4: Fingers do get cold, so put some gloves on.
Lesson 5: Being cold is not cool or 'tough'. My brother always goes 'gloves are for wussies', 'hats are for wussies'. blablalbabla. yeah whatever, as long as you stay warm...
Lesson 6: If your shoes suck and there is loads of melting snow on the road or wherever you have to walk, keep a set of spare socks or even spare shoes in a plastic bag in your packpack or so. Wet feet are horrible in cold ...
Lesson 7: Repeat 1-6 until satisfied.

Lesson 8: tights are never acceptable, never ever.

And driving around a rental car in the countryside when it's freezing is probably not a good idea. Especially when you have never driven in snow or frost... Unless you want to end up in some frozen ditch ...
There will be stuff to do... it's london!
