PostPosted: Thu, 17th Jan 2013 22:46    Post subject: [Build Log] 29Cu Cyprus [Coming Soon]
I'm doing a build log over on overclock.net so figured I'd share it here as well.

Coming to a forum near you!

The name: Copper is a chemical element with the symbol Cu (from Latin: cuprum) and atomic number 29. In the Roman era, copper was principally mined on Cyprus, hence the origin of the name of the metal as сyprium (metal of Cyprus), later shortened to сuprum.

What this build entails:

  • Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
  • AMD FX-8350 (subject to change)
  • Re-using my Radeon 5850 (waiting for taxes to replace it)
  • Lian Li-PC-V1000 (original one, none of the revisions). This case will be going into the tool room at the plant I work at and they're setting it up on a CNC Lathe for me to cut out radiator holes for me.
  • XSPC RX360 Water kit. I'm going to be replacing the hoses after I get everything set up and placed. The hoses will be replaced with polished copper pipping with the help of the factory maintenance department.

Pictures will be coming this weekend so stay tuned. So far I got the motherboard and the case. Next week I get the water kit hopefully. Saving CPU for last in hopes it drops down in price.

Wouldn't it be better to go for intel cpu with k?
They offer (for a small fee) warranty, if you blow it up with OC'ing and you get 1 new processor then (can only do this once tho).
Atleast then you have some financial security if shit hits the fan Wink

Nah, I skipped bulldozer for that reason, it was garbage. The new piledriver 8350 is a beast and has huge OC capabilities for what I'm doing with it.

Reasons for getting AMD CPU's today:

price and/or existing hardware you don't need to replace
AMD stick with their sockets for many generations (ie. up/backwards compatible) while Intel change socket for every new generation they release.
AMD Fanboy.

The only things I can think of. Wink

Oh i'm not trying to talk you into intel.
You wanted to use this for OC'ing, intel offers warranty on OC'ing with 1 new CPU if the old one blows up or w/e can go wrong with OC'ing. AFAIK AMD doesn't provide this service.
That was the only reason why i suggested it, nothing more, nothing less Wink

Even 2500k beats that amd in games. It almost equals to 3570k

KC, for him it's not about what's faster, but what is better to OC.
What matter to him is with what CPU can het get max OC out of it without blowing the thing up.. (atleast if i understand it right?)

What does it matter if he can clock it 1+ GHz and it barely match a 2500K at stock, not to mention the fact that nearly every single 2500k easily reach 4.5GHz (stock is 3.33).

For starters the 3850 keeps up with the 3570 just fine. You want to split hairs because it gets a few extra FPS in games then have at it. I'm not loyal to any brand name unlike some of the people here.

Why did I choose it? Overclocks like a beast, am3 is staying, it runs cooler, I know how Amd works for overclocking, with my motherboard and CPU it was 285 vs the 320 plus it was going to cost me when I was pricing out putting in a 3570K. Had I decided an extra few FPS was worth it and I was going to use multiple gpus, I'd have gone Intel. AMD fits in my budget more often but I pay attention to what the golden release is..... and well... lol... bulldozer...... what a fucking joke. The 8120? Piledriver really isn't worth it either. I've done my homework on he 8350, with what I haven't planned, it's going to get abused.

Alas this thread is a build log for a computer build case competition and I'm going to try and get it on the 2013 mdpc spot. What this thread isn't, is an Intel vs Amd discussion members here like to start in every there's here where the word Amd is mentioned. Any more debate about it from here on out I'm not replying to and will have deleted.

he spends own hard earned money on it so he can do however he pleases.

spyke do you own that gigabyte board already?

and the wait for new videocard will be worth , new AMD cards out i assume before the summer and the $250 range high mid end card will probably beat the current top card 7970 when looking at pure specs.

^__^

Anywho ya! I just got the board in I think thursday? I totally just scored an awesome deal on a video card too. Was browsing craigslist and some guy bought a Sapphire Flex 7950 and didn't fit in his case so never even used it and I talked him down to 240 for it!! It retails 320 bucks new!! I'll be putting them in today so pictures coming today or tomorrow.

Do you know how xfire works? Can a 5xxx be xfired with a 7xxx? I heard you can do it and wonder if its worth it for shits and giggles.

i wouldnt worry about crossfire, single card is alot more fun and troublefree. also with that 7950 you wont need any additional power.

what revision is that gigabyte board? reason i ask is cause 3.0 has uefi

Well, 240 bucks for a 7950 is such a good deal! lol but ya, I always read problems about crossfire, my eyes are getting bigger than my wallet lol.

Revision is 1.1 ....was a little pissed after I got it because I didn't realize there WAS a 3.0 -.- kind of bullshit they release revisions like that and offer nothing in ways of updating them or turning the old board in for a newer one.

We all know how happy you are mr firsttimerwithaporperriginthelast5yearsorso, but didn't he say he wasn't interested about OCing an Intel?
So why are you bringing this up again? What's the value to that post that contributes to this topic? (and don't be mr smartypants and say my post is neither Smile )

I don't know why you're trying to give advice KC, you barely know what you're doing half the time and just regurgitate whatever anyone tells you.

Anywho my 7950 is sitting at 1150/1575

I presume once you are finished you gonna show benchmarks with before and after OC right? Razz
I wanna see if it's really worth putting all that time in an OC and how much more performance you are going to get out of it.
