According to Maxime Retard, his birthday date was never disclosed (which is not true, it was shown in the manual for the first SC), and they stopped aging him after Chaos Theory.

Sam is 56.

Unless my memory is betraying me, in previous games Sam made all kinds of noises when you had him climb ledges and perform other feats of strength and agility indicating he's getting up there in age and it's not terribly easy for him.

I guess that Panther blood transfusion he received from Third Echelson de-aged him causing him to look and sound younger, and move like a 20 something again.

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

He was old in Chaos Theory, he was older in Hobo Sam, he was still old in Hurrdurrtion; now he is younger than the first Splinter.

If I had that antiaging material, I'd have all the girls in the world. Laughing

Ofc there is, they just try to show "good old stealth" to bait old players into buying it. Retail will have mega hack googles, day maps etc. Everything is bs till it is released and we can see it ourselves, just marketing hype and showing off bits of maps to please particular part of the fans.

Narrator says that the rc copter makes noise and you have to be careful with it, yet in the videos you can see how copter is about half a meter above the enemy and he can't detect it, i guess noise means that you need to shove it up the enemys face to be able to detect it. The rc looks stupid anyway imo.

The lighting is really weird. There's no darkness really, just "darker textures". It's kind of like how it was in FC3, but worse. I didn't really care in that about this, but this is SC, so I do care. It looks quite ugly because of that too. Why are devs so bloody scared about making darkness in games actual darkness, like in Chaos Theory. In that one it was pretty much pitch black if there were no light sources around. The problem seems to be in Thief 4 too (at least from what little they've shown us) and as far as I know it wasn't the case with the previous ones. It's just new games that are like this.

Playthrough of a level, I didn't watch it yet

*sigh*

Sound apparently doesn't exist in the game world. Doesn't matter how fast he moves or on which surface, the enemy will never hear him.

And the shadows are still binary. If he's in shadows he's completely invisible, if he's steps over a magical line he's fully visible.

Last Known Position makes a comeback as well, making sure the enemies will look for you where you were for hours before deciding you're no longer there.

The AI is really really bad in the video, almost non existent. You can run around and use your personal helicopter without being noticed, and whistling guarantees certain death for the guards since all you have to do is wait and press a buhon to eliminate them.

The movements are unrealistically too fast and panther-like, and the mark 'n execute is back with its glorious 2.0 version, with even more executeness! It's a bit better than Conviction because of the shadows and the more non-lethal approaches, but it still stinks Sad

edit: I also agree with Vai, they way shadows are handled is laughable Okay

He even says "the enemy is in shadow so we can use smoke grenade to take down an enemy without his friends noticing".

SC: Chaos Theory. The last real stealth game. I would love to see another game that focuses purely on stealth (no hybrids), but sadly I don't think it's gonna happen. I have *some* faith in Theif 4, but until I see some actual gameplay, I won't know for sure.

I don't know..looked alright for me. The ghost playthrough at least.
The AI reacts as you'd expect from a video game, wouldn't say it's so stupidly bad..

Mark and execute is crap though..never played Conviction so haven't experienced it myself (don't know if it's needed or you can just ignore it the whole game) But other than that, I'm looking forward to playing this.

Pretty much what madness said.
I played Conviction and as far as I remember there was only 1 part where you were forced to use MnE.

When did the argument:"Oh you don't have to use the feature, you can still have a stealth playthrough.", become valid?
When they made Conviction, they made the entire gameplay, map structure and "AI" around the panther mechanic.
You just had the option for stealth play. Which wasn't an option really since everything in the game was designed for run&gun.

Almost the same thing in Blacklist. You still get the sonar wallhack, nonexistent AI, completely silent takedowns other enemies never detect because you're in shadow.

Light&shadow shouldn't be binary.

Sound should play a big role but it doesn't.

This is not Splinter Cell.

Yeah, I haven't played Conviction (or any Splinter Cell game for that matter) but this seems similar to what happened with Hitman Absolution. Sure, you weren't forced at all to kill any enemies (I didn't kill a single one in my whole playthrough out of assassination targets) yet many of the maps where clearing shouting at your face for you to start delivering headshots left and right, and getting past them the stealthy way even felt unnatural.

Seeing what is being discussed here and some of the gameplay trailers makes me think: Absolution all over again.

This is very true, and as always happens these days, it's the consequence of trying to please both the fans and those who prefer to shoot at everything that moves..which is incredibly difficult to achieve since obvious compromises have to be made.

Ghosting, Panthering and PewPewing, 3 different approaches in the same game..amazing on paper, and yet the typical result is that the game is a strange hybrid where both the sides get disappointed. Razz (although the old fans are the ones who usually get screwed more xD)

http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2013/04/01/splinter-cell-blacklist-has-dedicated-team-working-on-pc-version/

Quote:
During our recent interview with Splinter Cell: Blacklist Director, Patrick Redding, it was mentioned that there was a dedicated team of game designers with the sole purpose of optimizing the PC version of the game. This includes getting the controls working correctly, numerous graphic and engine elements and a whole bunch of things on the online side.

While this may not seem notable to console gamers, it is in the fact that it signals that the PC version of the game will not simply be a rushed port and has the chance to once again exemplify what the platform has to offer. Redding affirmed that they are “giving the PC version the attention it deserves and are committed to releasing it day and date with the 360 and PS3 versions of the game.”

That day, of course, will be August 20.

I guess they are switching to PC as their main version again, just like with Watch_Dogs and ACIV for instance.

Quote:
Following the release of 2010’s Splinter Cell: Conviction, vocal fans were unhappy that the game had become more action-orientated, with a reduced focus on stealth. So what can users expect from Blacklist? A hardcore stealth title like Double Agent, or a more accessible action game like Conviction?

“Ubisoft does extensive post-launch studies on all of the games we put out. The learnings from those studies are invaluable as the trends that result from thousands of players being surveyed are often quite different from the opinions of the smaller group of people who post on forums,” explains Raymond.

“Believe it or not, of the thousands of people surveyed, the players who rated Conviction’s new action-oriented features the highest were in fact players who had played two or more other games within the series. When creating Blacklist, we were inspired by the roots of the franchise and we have paid extra attention to fan feedback from both Conviction post-launch results and regular playtests of Blacklist throughout development.

Quote:
“Our primary focus was to please our fans and bring back all of the features that made Splinter Cell so popular to begin with. We brought back the knife, the ability to drag dead bodies, the ability to ghost through levels and all of Sam’s signature gadgets.

“So a big inspiration for the innovation on Splinter Cell: Blacklist came from the roots of the franchise. And I do say innovation because we didn’t just re-code the old features exactly as they were.

Quote:
“With Splinter Cell: Blacklist, not only do I think that the team is delivering the best stealth experience of this generation, I also think that we are delivering a completely new multiplayer experience. Hopefully unique gameplay is still something that can make a game stand out.”

Bitch please Reaction Dishonored is pretty much the best stealth experience of this gen imo.

No way. Laughing

Though they said "played", not "liked".. Because I refuse to believe that whoever truly enjoyed SC1/SC2/SC3 would rate Crapviction >5. Unless they took the survey in a psychiatric centre.
