It won't, just remember the very successful Etherlords 1&2 by the same company, Nival. Battles copied the HOMM style but looked great in real-time 3D.

In fact, Nival got the offer of making HOMM5 due to the success of Etherlords as one of the reasons...

This looks good! I've played Etherlords 1&2 and I really liked the game. So I really trust Nival to do something really nice out of it. I hope the 3D won't ruin the game, as it did to other games.

Why warcraft is on your list? Warcraft 3 was a great game, and 3D or not, I don't think it ruined him at all! If you know how to use 3D right, you can do excellent game.

I dont think 3d will ruin the game. I loved 2-3 (and to some extens I like 4 - some parts of the story is fine). What makes HOMM a great serie is gameplay. If they remake the same gameplay all will be fine no matter how it look. Some games gets alot worse then they go 3d but mostly its due to a shift in gameplay (like worms).

I played Etherlords 2 alot and in some way I think its alot like how HOMM 5 should be (well you just start with the monsters instead of summoning them but that shouldnt be that much of a difference). The only thing I think they will mess up (based on Etherlords only) is the patches - There are some kind of glaring bugs here and there.

I have "shocking" news for you: I only liked warcraft 1 and 2 - after that what has come..more or less shit imo...even WoW (tho not tested as the idea "pay to play" ain't what I do..). So why? It's my PERSONAL opinion - that's why.

Yeah nothing beats Heroes 2 in the series and I too have worries this 3D is going to ruin the games spirit

It looks like it has LOADS of potential, and could bring the HoMM brand into the mainstream games again.

And to those that say 2D to 3D ruins games... you're partly right. Old classics made anew are usually bad, but not every 2D to 3D game follows these rules. Some are great and some are groundbreaking, some even turn out to be the world's most favourite game. i.e. Grand Theft Auto 3.

But then, there are always those guys who bash every game that comes out after 1980s. I will say one thing though, some games are best left 2D. i.e. Metal Slug. n_n

Why do they have to try and bring 3D into every genre? its obvious this would be better in 2D, and just add so many features so its really deep in gameplay.

I have to agree with Bozo. The 3rd installment was already perfect, and it had everything. If they won't touch it, and only add to it, improve what was imperfect. Also, I guess we will all like to see more units and buildings. Damn, I want to play it already:|

I've been playing HoMM since the first one. Been edicted to the first. The second was even better. Third was all I could ask for. And than came the forth... The reason i didnt like the forth as much as I did the first three is because it had too many "Improvments". Too many modification and features that made it too different. Now heroes 4 was fun, but it didnt have the same feel...
There is much information about Heroes 5 and so I cant predict if I'll like it or not because I dont know what kind of changes Nival will put in it. The only major change that I'm seeing is the graphics, and I cant say that im disappointed. It looks pretty nice and stays true to the series. The adventage in full 3D is that the animations are much smoother. The Heroes series lacked that because of the 2D GFX.
I guess what I'm wishing of Heroes 5 that it wont inherit all of the features of H4, make it more similar to H3 in style.
