The biggest problem is the unpredictability. There are those who use plasma regulary for gaiming without any problems, according to them at least Razz. Others have far less luck.

meh i think it has more to do with human factor than unpredictability of plasmas. if person has no attention to detail he'll miss even biggest image retention on his plasma, but if person is lets say a graphics designer, or someone who was trained to see detail, he'll have no problems noticing image retention.

i had a Samsung plasma 6 months ago that all reviews said has 0 image retention. lies and bullshit. after 40 mins of any game static UI elements would begin to leave retention. i returned it and went back to LCD.

plasma will make you paranoid, it's only good if you watch 16:9 content that fills entire screen and and has absolutely no static elements, channel logos and such.

Thats definitely another problem. But with the hifi-forum as a source, it's a given that there is a varation with each plasma, sadly.

That is an overstatement though. When I first had a real problem and noticed that it went away completely (took over a week) I felt safe with a Panasonic 42GW10.

Though 0 image retention is out of the question.

True, in a usual store a plasma doesnt make a good picture. Which makes a visit to a usual store completely useless.

But good luck with your LCD.

Never compare plasma tv with a lcd in a store. Plasma will look give you an impression of washed out dull shitty colors/picture.
I've got myself LCD and kinda thinking if I should go the plasma way for gaming. Blacks won't be as black as they are on plasma, you also get input lag with most LCD's afaik. But there's game mode on most TVs as well. If you'd ever buy a Samsung LCD - you will spend a LOT of time tinkering with it to make it look just right. LGs have almost spot on settings right out of the box, but their black are worse than Samsungs, because of IPS panels (same goes to Panasonic)
I'd wait for new TVs to arrive before making a decision right now Smile

i went, i saw, i compared and i just bought me the new ips lcd panasonic, watching plasma on store the image wasnt bright and vivid, i knew lag input for my games was going to be great on plasma, but there where more cons on Lcd overshadowing plasma. The imput lag on my 4 year sony wasnt noticable but never measured it, i could be "'70'' or ''90'' or even 40 which i've read is high but very hard to notice. With the new TC-L47WT50 i supose or guess cant be higher than 42 ms and the colors and bright and vivid image is very nice, this thread helped me a lot. So my conclusion is that for gaming, input lag or response time on plasma vs this lcd i wont notice it at all, having plasma tech no lag. I'll try it tomorrow on games such as Battlefield 3, Call of duty and need for speed to let u guys know. Cant imagine the joy of the garbage car collectors when they find my old Sony outside with the bags and all. Drooling

the tv is great, it excels in everything, quality and response time, i would recommend it for anyone interested in a good Lcd for either gaming or movies, is logical that tvs have evolved a lot since 2007. 9/10
