I'm a fan of the series and visit the official site and a fansite every day (don't got that many other places to go on the net) and can tell that it looks quite good already. It's building on the tried and true version of HoMM III instead of the failure known as HIV There are three alignments announced so far: Knights, Demons and Undead. Wizards are very likely to be in to due to the storyline.

For someone who never played HOMM series, what was the problem with IV?
looking at gamespot, they gave it a 8.8, but more importantly the fans, with 707 ratings gave it an 8.5
That hardly seems like any kind of failure to me.
After playing the Beta for V I'm interested in playing one of the older ones.

i've spent most of my turn based time on games like Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, Galactic Civilizations and Alpha Centauri.

Compared to other HOMM games, 4 was total crap. They have changed the system, and added stuff and it just ruined the perfect balance of the previous games. If you play HOMM 3 for a long time, and then switch to 4 you will notice the diff.
