K im not sure where this belongs since its a multi platform system... but since i'll be using it mostly on PC and for gaming It should play nice here. There are threads in hardware and general from 2 years ago but i'll make one for gaming since this is what im buying it for.

so anyone interested in this or has one? or the last one the T1? I been researching tons around for the best Head mounted display systems for 3D gaming and this is as close to perfect as it will get right now.

please no references to rift since that system is VR only and based on their faq they have no idea when it'll come out or what it'll support and although they boast that thousands of developers want their system,it seems only 2 have given their backing.

$1000 for this HMZ system is a pretty penny to be sure but I look at it as getting a massive ghost free 150inch 3D tv without spending 50 grand. Skyrim or COD 3D? hmmmmm

pics and info:

Immersive 2D and 3D experience
Strap on this wearable HDTV and feel like you’re in your personal movie theater. The extraordinarily immersive 2D and 3D1 is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

Dual High Definition OLED Displays
OLED displays are known for outstanding brightness, contrast, color and clarity. OLED provides an independent, yet coordinated image for each eye. This means you get an exceptional 2D and 3D1 experience.

A 150-inch screen in your face
Strapping on the Head Mount Display is the equivalent of having your very own 150 inch movie screen only twelve feet away, in either 2D or 3D1.

HDMI® Pass-through
Keep the unit connected all the time. When the HMZ-T1is turned on, the image is switched from your TV to the unit. Turn off the HMZ-T1, and the image is sent back to the TV.

Adjustable for comfort
The Head Mount Display is adjustable for head size and comfort, Surprisingly lightweight it provides the wearability you need to fully enjoy your favorite movies or games.

no no,it supports all 3D games on xbox and PS3 pretty damn well... ps3 and xbox are pretty ancient systems by pc standards...

people on AVS forums are running a game or movie on their tv and the glasses at the same time.

I'd really recommend you give it a try before purchasing, many were disappointed by the T1. It's marketed and aimed primarily for movie viewing, while gaming is certainly possible it's not optimal for it (limited FoV and such). Oculus Rift isn't just "VR only" btw., it'll need special support due to its implementation of 3D, but it's still a 3D head-mounted display just like Sony's HMZ is.

their faq says its not for movies... its designed from strach to have motion tracking... I dont know any movie that has that feature.

and yes HMZ some people had issues but it was mostly due to size and weight and it being hard to adjust the screens... they have improved all those issues now... its definitely an early stage situation and yes i will definitely go try it on for sure. But i will most likely love it. I am SORT OF scared about the situation with glasses since i wear glasses to see far... but my prescription is very very low and if anything i might just get laser to fix it once and for all.

actually almost EVERYONE on AVS forums say its the greatest 3D "tv" they have ever seen...

"that the image users see is the same as watching a 3D movie on a 150-inch widescreen from a viewing distance of 12 feet. This creates a very immersive 3D experience, indeed, which the general effects of wearing the device only amplify.
One of the more common complaints lodged by critics of 3D TVs is that flicker rates can lead to headaches and general discomfort when watching movies or playing video games in 3D. At first glance, one would wonder whether a television worn on the head would only amplify those concerns.
But Sony gets serious points for providing a workaround, and the HMZ-T2 gets five stars for creating flicker- and headache-free viewing. Sony built each lens as a separate 0.7-inch OLED display that receives a separate signal, and the technology completely negates the technical challenges that normally lead to flickering."

here how it looks

so in reality they are TV glasses with LED ... from experience i can say you can't have them longer on your head then 2h... if more then you will be totally disoriented and for 15min your inner ear balance will be fucked up

I had had a pair of Virtual IO glasses back in the mid 90's. I wore them for movies all the time and never had any discomfort. The cord was long as hell and I used to run it to the hammock on my deck and lay there and watch a movie.

So not everyone will have a problem with these (other than the insane price).

Marketing fluff video.

The T1 is basically the same thing but with MUCH better screens, HDMI, probably better build quality, and no option for head tracking.

I don't think they weight should be an issue. If they're balanced well they should be fine.

In the end you'll still feel like you're watching a big ass tv. why not go for the occulus rift? Even the dev kit.

I'm sure there'll be mods for rift to watch 3d movies etc.

The HMD for sony just feels weird. It gives you the theatre feel... sure... but that's it. Neutral

@guyver:
i heard about the heaviness, i'm used to an ice-hockey goalie mask (for killing peo... ehhm for playing hockey!) so maybe it doesn't bother me that much.

Rift is vr and mostly for gaming only and who knows when that'll even come out... They say it's not for movies right in their faq... And technically it would be super hard... Movie would have to be tailored for it or some sort of 3D engine that overlays ghe video for which you would need a good computer. Nah don't think they'll go after movies. But I'll buy the rift too especially since they are saying between 300 to 400 only.

well... i walked in to TRY them on.... and walked out with a pair in abouttttt 2 minutes lol

some impressions... this is definitely NOT VR... lol i was having visions of like.... edge to edge screen... that it is not.... infact at first screen looked TINY.... TINY...... very disappointing... BUT thennnnn their demo scene came on.... and i held my hands under the glasses to block all light.... and THEN the 3D effect was REALLY really nice and seemless... at same time u forgot about the size and suddenly you felt like u were literally in a massive theater alone.... pretty neat....

another problem is that the back straps to hold ur head are EXTREMELY flimsy and i can see i have to be very cautious with it... other than that i havent even plugged it in right now... will post info soon. for now to download some 3D movies and stuff

Yeah I've heard that before - the brightly-lit store setting isn't really ideal for testing them, you'll want as dark a room as possible. I guess it'd look weird if they had a little picture booth thingie for testing them. Laughing

you better build a headtracker for it now
a 3d headset is a bit boring if you can just look straight ahead
i built myself one out of a cheap IMU and an arduino
it's a bit laggy, but hillcrest tracker, which is the "go-to" chip is like $99, and i'm a cheap prick
maybe i can optimize the arduino code some

i don't have a 3d headset - i just use it as a track-ir replacement through FreePie
