Was about to re-configure the whole game for the Dragonborn experience when noticed that too many gameplay mods would need to be updated/changed..and I'm not sure that my old saves would survive after that. I think the best thing to do at this point is wait until the guys behind Requiem release the new version, so then I can slap some texture mods on it, and start a new sexy character from scratch

Apparently its a issue the unofficial patch crew are still looking into judging by the comments.

The game, even without any mods or dlc, was inconsistent w/ dragon souls. Dragons at specified locations (dragon icon on map) would only give souls the first time, and random spawned dragons would only give souls about 3/4 of the time. At least that's how it's been for me.
I now have the Dragonborn dlc and the first random dragon didn't give a soul, but the second did. I had to fast travel back and forth until they spawned.

So i started playing dawnguard, but i haven't progressed all that far. I'm a werewolf now and i got into the castle of vampires and was asked a question which basically is be a vampire hunter or join the vampires. For those who have done the expansion, which part is more fun and rewarding? I'm not one to play a big game such as this twice, so i'd rather get the best out of this.

I like the Vampire side better. It's nice to be "close" to the final boss for the most of the questline. And the choices to make a more interested as a vampire in the situations.

Well, far close to the end of "Dragonborn" DLC now I have to admit: Its a pretty good experience. Lots and lots of quests, locations, items, NPC on the relative small area. Dungeon design is above the original game and the reminders to good old Morrowind are very nice.
But it shares one main weakness with the main game: the fighting system
Since I started original Skyrim I quickly found out one combination of methods is always working against almost every enemy: conjuration and bow.
That has not changed. Conjure creature to keep enemies busy and kill from behind with bow. Adding companions or pets (dog) makes it even easier. I mean, why did they not add enemies with "special abilities", for example enemies able to turn the pets/creatures against you or banish them, deflect missiles or something like that. Its very rare that you are surprised by an enemies behaviour. You have the feeling its always the same script running.
They should have added something like in "Dark Souls": using the inventory should not stop the game or the fight. But so you can take all the time in the world, search for healing potions (if necessary) or change weapons... man, how boring. Really not exactly staggering an adrenaline rush.

Correction - ANY combination of methods works against all enemies. The combat is just too easy and unengaging. The only enemies that have any chance of killing you are high level mages that oneshot you. But they are squishy and don't even have to see you.

Yeah, if Skyrim had Dark Messiah of Might and Magics combat I would be in heaven.

It's the Unofficial Patch, then the Dawnguard one and then the Hearthfire one and after that the Dragonborn one (The DLC can be in any order, just make sure they load after the Skyrim Unofficial patch.) and after those comes the unofficial high res patch. (It has to load after those to override the packed textures from their bsa files.)

No you don't have to alter anything, the high-res BSA files got a few path (And file.) names wrong and thus those textures have no effect, here they packed the same files but with the correct paths so they work as intended but you don't need to change anything, just make sure the unofficial high resolution patch loads after the other unofficial patches.
(And after the three default high res .ESP files, those are all empty but are used to load the BSA archive into the game.)

Thanks, JB. In their readme it says topmost, but that's a bit ambiguous. Could mean that they should be loaded even before the game's main files...
To make sure i've got it right:
1. unofficial Skyrim patch and DLC's patches
2. DLC's
3. unofficial texture pack patch

Skyrim.esm, Dawnguard.esm, Hearthfires.esm, DragonBorn.esm
The three HighResTexture01,02,03 .ESP files.
And then the unofficial Skyrim patch followed by the unofficial DLC patches and the texture patch, since the DLC and the Skyrim file (And the Update file.) are ESM's they'll always load earlier than any ESP file.
You might want to try using BOSS to set up a organized nearly automated load-order, it works really well but it can take up to a week or so for lesser known plugins to be added and they have something like ~3000 plugins left to sort.

That's strange it should have fixed it, how odd.
It's a script conflict since Bethesda altered the content for that sequence when Miraak interferes and steals the dragon soul and the Unofficial Patch fixed some bug with the original script still present in the Dragonborn version.
The fix in the unofficial dragonborn patch (Latest version is 1.0a or some such.) was simply to re-use the Dragonborn script and override the changes in the unofficial patch as to restore the absorb functionality.
(Now with the script sources present they can update it properly and include the bug fix part too.)

Finally finished with the 2 DLC's. Brilliant both of them IMO. On another note, how fucking useless are the developers? All games at least since Morrowind has had save file size issues, and they still haven't done anything about it. What the hell are they doing? I reached almost 16mb in size now, and i'm worried i'll run into issues soon. Tried resting in a building for 30 days as people say that will purge the world, but it reduced the size by a few hundred kb, so it didn't help much.
