Looking at both of these..
Samsung S27A850D, 27" PLS Widescreen LED, 2560x1440, 5ms(GtG), DCR Mega (CR), USB 3x3.0 Hub, HAS,Tilt/Swivel/Pivot, DVI x2, DisplayPort
$699
Dell Ultrassharp U2713HM 27" Widescreen LED, 2560x1440, 8ms(GtG), DCR Mega (CR), USB 4x3.0 Hub, HAS,Tilt/Swivel/Pivot, DVI x2, DisplayPort
$ 699
I like the Dell better as it has an extra USB3 port + its Dell quality so..
Are there others out there who best the above whole staying below $1000?
I would like to move up to 2560x1660 but its well over $1000, doesn't have USB3 hubs built-in and only limited to LCD. Bah!

Including taxes they are pretty much the same price as a brand new Dell U2713HM. So not worth the hassle. |
Depends where do you live. I only paid $430 for me. Still substantially less. And yet I still have to receive bill for import tax, not sure how it works in the US. But so far I have received nothing. The seller put value of $150. I doubt even if I get the bill, it won't be that much.

Not sure, I don't think any of them has usb ports built in, but worth checking out nevertheless.
And scratch my last sentence from other replay. There is no import tax for USA from South Korea, so yeah

Better just to buy premium if you cash for it (Dell/Samsung). The korean catleaps etc.. have A- panel, with minor imperfections. I had one Catleap and it had couple dead pixels + blue tint on colors + horrible glossy screen. Also prepare for slideshow in games unless you have minimum of GTX 680/7970 in the computer (you need to render nearly 80% more pixels compared to 1080p).

Dell. If you have a little more cash go for U2713H (not the HM model).
Hey, you said "best" in the title.

I prefer the HP panels myself. Same quality as Dell, but typically a little bit cheaper. Perform pretty much the same in every measured test.

Ah.. yeah ok see the H verse HM but seriously really that much difference considering the $300 price diff? Yeah the DELL one seems like the real winner. Don't trust cheap Korean imports.

So.. Dell Ultrassharp U2713HM 27" Widescreen LED, 2560x1440, 8ms(GtG), DCR Mega (CR), USB 4x3.0 Hub, HAS,Tilt/Swivel/Pivot, DVI x2, DisplayPort
$ 699
The U2713H is $1000 so again +$300 more worth that? Doesn't seem so..

You could also check out older U2711 which i have, its better than the newer "HM". Feels sturdier aswell. Whichever you will take, all are awesome monitors and beats the shit out from korean cheap versions.

The problem with U2711 is the aggressive anti-glare coating, and also, it is a lot less efficient in power usage than the newer models.
Regarding H vs HM, it is a different panel, better color reproduction and wide gamut, as well as unimportant stuff like a card reader.

Get one, you won't be unhappy.

Sources for these? I thought the Korean models, while super-cheap, still don't have all the features the Sammy and Dellies have and if they arrive with dead pixels then, well, yer fooked! Have to think on the H vs HM.. H obviously but not sure its worth it although I do use PS6 and other image-based apps frequently.

No matter how you spin it, they do use inferior panels, as well as panels that have not passed QA tests of other distributors. In addition to that, they are truly barebones - one DVI input, not control, no calibration, etc.

Why not get a 30"? isn't there a 30" LED available yet?
Why wouldn't you just get a 30" LCD, afaik it just uses more power than a LED screen, still less than CRT though
I got a Dell 2011 30" for 800$ back when I bought it.

The problem with the 30" displays is they are still 2560xHHHH resolution, so they have a considerably larger pixel (dot) size. 27" actually have smaller pixel size than 24" displays. Once higher resolution displays are made available at acceptable prices, there will be something to talk about.

30" is grossly too expensive and we're talking having a mini-jumbotron on the desk now.. $800? Where? On the back of Ed's Pickup?!?!
27" is big enough and the price/features are right.

Korean screens also doesnt have any scaler or stuff, you cant adjust pretty much anything (only with expensive calibration device). |
It isn't a random lottery if you use the right buyers and pick brands. I've compared my screen next to Apple Cinema Displays and they are on par, these are screens that easily go for $1100.

Inferior panels? No. They are the same panels that Apple, LG, etc. use - but they are not A+ rated ones, meaning that they have between 1-5 dead pixels unless you buy a pixel perfect one. Regarding connectivity, it depends what model you buy. And yes there are models that can be both calibrated and have controls.
The farthest I can go as a term of disadvantage is that if you don't research what you need to get, and just buy something as cheap as possible from "anyone on ebay" at random. Then yeah, you'll end up with a shitty deal probably.
Yes, yes I'm back.

I hear newer 30" LEDs are coming.. which ones? Samsung and Dell? Are they now up to 2560x1660 which is what I want but with the 2560x1440 features (ie. 4-Port USB3 hub built-in)?
I'd rather wait to get a newer 27-30" LED 2560x1660 rather than be stuck with 2560x1440.

Those are screens tho that has apple logo, therefore +600 dollars to the price . Also the panels what korean models uses, yes they are same as Dell / Apple, but they are A- and they have much more imperfections than just dead pixels. Ofcourse you can get some "pixel perfect" etc.. models but still they can have more imperfections. Anyway you won in the lottery. Im happy with my Dell, awesome build quality and not a single imperfections, got what i paid for |
Funny that you mention. My friend wanted to get 27' IPS as well. He ordered Dell U2713HM and it has been nothing but a nightmare for him. First one show up and it had so much bleeding that he decided to get replacement few days later he got another one and bleeding was much worse than the first one. He decided to return all of them and not bother again with them. Getting support is so hard these days. Everything is in India. When he called, they asked him "What kind of laptop is this?" Or some other crazy questions.
I got my crossover pixel-perfect and when I showed him my minimal bleeding, his jaw dropped.

My friend got Dell U2713HM and replace it twice, and each time backlight bleeding was worse than previous one. He just got a refund eventually.
I have some, but it's really not that noticeable(Crossover here). Or, I just try to pretend there is none because I cannot return it and I am stuck with it.
