I've had the same keyboard/mouse for years and I'm finding it hard to replace it with something that is similar but also superior. I have a Saitek II Eclipse Keyboard and a Razer Daimondback. I prefer the keyboard has some kind of wrist rest either built on or attached, as well as mechanical but I'm not really sure which cherry MX switches to get (this will be my first mechanical keyboard). I don't really care for all the extras like media or macro keys. I prefer the standard QWERTY layout when it comes to keyboards, I'd also prefer lazer etched keys and blue back lighting. If you look at the picture I prefer the same shaped keys as well. When it comes to the mouse I'd prefer it to be ambidextrous with a low profile and a forward/back button on opposite sides (which is increasingly harder to find these days) with matching blue LEDs if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions, my budget is around $200-$250. I'm willing to spend a fair amount of money as long as I know it's built to last. TiA[/img]

Corsair Vengeance K90 is the keyboard to get. It has everything you could need, it's practical without gimmicks, looks great, feels great.

Features:
Mechanical
Wrist rest
Backlit keys
Raised keys for easy cleaning
USB passthrough
Brushed aluminium (looks stylish)

Plus some stuff I don't really need but:
18 macro keys
No key ghosting
20 key rollover

Disregard the MMO and RTS marketing. Its a great keyboard, period, for anything, gaming or work.

Friend of mine has this since recently, i used it for a while, while i was there.
Gotta say that i personally don't like it. You really need to press those buttons hard compared to what i'm used to with my g19.
But for a mechanical keyboard, it's one of the better ones out there yes.

Dunno, if anything I find it a bit too sensitive at times. Often I'll play a game just resting my fingers on WASD + Space and suddenly my char either starts jumping or walking in some direction until I realize I was pressing the key.

Thanks guys for all your feedback.

The Corsair Vengeance K90 looks like a decent keyboard but I really have no need for that many macro keys, as I've never used them. Plus not even sure how I could make use of them.

The QPAD MK80, I'm not a big fan of the enter key being that big, also can't find it on Newegg or Google Shopper. I did find it on Amazon for like $180, I can't even tell is this normal pricing or not?

The Filco Majestouch2 looks about perfect but it's missing a wrist rest and does it have back lighting at all? Looks like not.

Recently found this site here and I think I like Cherry MX Browns, and Red's most. Who knows until I actually take the risk and jump in.

I really like this keyboard but, it too is lacking a detachable wrist rest.

What the hell is the market coming too, all these options and they are all shit! Always missing something that used to come standard, this is ridiculous...

Well I can see no one brought up this http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4179#ov

I have it myself and I like it. First mechanical keyobard for me so it took a while to get used to red switches. It has blue back lighting with a good wrist rest.
I heard that they are bringing out the same keyobard with brown switches at some point,so you should keep an eye out for that if you think red is too much for you. Smile

As for a mouse. There is Razer Ouroboros that has forwards/back buttons on each side, but it's wireless and I think pretty expensive too.
After a quick look, there is also Zowie Gear FK which has forward/back buttons on each side, which should be a lot cheaper. Smile

I don't use the macro or media keys either. But do they really hurt you? Only if you have limited space on the desk, otherwise you don't even know they're there.

It's a great keyboard, except for one issue that will more than likely occur which is repeating key issue. -.-
Now, this has mostly been fixed by firmware but there are still issues with it. So take heed, if you're unlucky you might be struck with the repeating key issue. Sad

I'm using some 5€ worth A4Tech keyboard. Best fucking keyboard I've had. I don't see a reason to pay high price for this thing. The mouse on the other hand...

BearishSun, yeah I don't have much room. A full size keyboard including the 10key is really all I have room for.

Prefetian, how do you know if a keyboard has the repeating key issue or not?

I'm really leaning towards the Ducky keyboards even though it doesn't have a detachable wrist rest. Does anyone have one of the wrist wrests Ducky offers?

Now for a mouse anyone ever use a Razer Diamondback and find something similar in feel?

Logitech G500 - amazing mouse.

But I never understood the point of expensive keyboards and probably never will so I use a 3$ generic keyboard, it works perfect and I don't have to be paranoid when drinking tea.

I own one and unfortunately it's "amazingness" isn't enough for it to be ambidextrous.

I am right handed I just hate the feel of a mouse that is made just for righties. I just prefer an even flat design which also comes in handy when I don't feel like sliding out the tray to use the mouse. If I had a right hander I'm sure the incline would force my fingers into the bottom of the desk.

Only one downside on the Sensei, if you have sweaty hands alot (like me), then the coating is going to shit quite soon.
2 of them within 3-4 months now... They did replace my first without a hassle, didn't report second one in yet.

Breezer that does look like a good one.

I am trying to look up the specifications for my mouse now the Razer Diamondback 3G, but when I google it I get a bunch that look nothing like mine pictured here.

If all this is correct then that Sensei has a lower height profile which would be a good thing.

As it stands now when I'm using my mouse with the tray closed, I cannot pass my knuckles over the mouse. Since the Diamondback has huge buttons that reach to the peak (middle) of the mouse it works out nicely.

Also I've never had to worry about the paint wearing off as my hands do sweat moderately because mine is all clear plastic.

Cherry MX Browns are better for gaming/typing as a whole which the Logitech G710 uses.

Otherwise stick with Ducky's. They're the kings of mechanical boards.

in general
blues= typing
browns = middleground typing and gaming
blacks=fps as you dont want accidental key presses and you dont really need to double tap as much as you would in true RTS games (not ideal for typing though)
reds = lighter blacks
greens?? = heavier blues??

If you can order them and want to try this, you can get the key tester pack for 5 bucks

http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-keyboard-keycap-cherry-mx-switch-o-ring-sampler-kit.html

Give This Guide a read through to about mechanicals and why even PS/2 ports are still better for keyboards than USB

y0 SpykeZ are these universal key switches in that sample?

Also curious if I want blue LED back lighting does that mean I'm stuck with Cherry MX Blue switches? Is it even possible to get multi-color back lighting?

I've got this mouse. It has superb sensor but if you have short fingers like me you will be pissed by the side buttons. I can't comfortably reach the forward one Sad

Ducky Shine has backlit with different switches. And I think they are, you'll have to email them for more info

SpykeZ I contacted tigerimports.net with the following question.

"I'm planning on buying my first mechanical keyboard to replace my Saitek Eclipse II. I know I want blue back lighting behind all the keys with the 10 key included. What are my options?

I'm also curious what the buttons above the 10 key are for exactly. Last but not least I am interested in protecting my investment, is there a gel cover available for these keyboards? If you don't have the gel cover do you know where I can get one. Thanks!"

I got this response.

"Here is the link for all of the Shine 2 blue LED keyboards:

http://tigerimports.net/sunshop/index.php?l=product_list&c=139

Also, we do not have a gel cover that we currently sell. My best advise for something like that would be to look on Amazon.

Thank you,

Caleb Putnam"

I seriously hate Amazon they are so backwards. Plus he didn't answer all my questions, pathetic!

I responded with, "Caleb I know I said blue LED but what about the keyboards that have multi-color back lighting?"

Got another response...

"There is only 1 keyboard that Ducky offers that has multiple LEDs on the keyboard. However, we wont be getting these keyboards in until next week. Here is the picture of the keyboard:

This keyboard will have all LED colors as well as every cherry mx switch."

This guy really doesn't know what I'm asking, I thought my questions were quite clear as well. Also, why would anyone want different switches spread across the keyboard?

I also ordered that, "Max Keyboard Keycap, Cherry MX Switch, O-Ring Sampler Kit" from MaxKeyboard.com. Hopefully I get it tomorrow.

Just got the sample kit today.

Cherry MX Black - No Bump, No Click, No Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Red - No Bump, No Click, No Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Brown - Slight Bump, Subtle Click, Subtle Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Blue - Big Bump, Loud Click, Very Distinct Tactile Feedback

I can't tell a difference at all between the Black and Red.

I'm considering it for my next KB upgrade since I can't go back to non-mechanical keyboards. Surprised
