I've tried various settings but I also get the slowdown/speedup that someone else mentioned. It's very frustrating. Any ideas what could be causing that?

But seriously, like 5 people have said in this thread the loader is flawed. The game crashes early and there's strange performance issues.
It'd be wise to wait for a real release. It's kind of a waste of time otherwise.

I'm playing on Supersoldier difficulty. Tried to sneak past 2 enemies standing side by side while cloaked. I accidentally bumped into one of them and although I activated armor mode, I got killed really quick before I could shoot back.

Holy shet the input lag is crazy.. Cant tell if its the crack's fault, 30 fps' fault or the game's fault, all i can do is try to get a bit more fps to see how much that helps.. any performance improvement tweaks out yet ?

30FPS + Vsync perhaps? I can imagine that would create some serious input lag.

Be sure to disable both mouse acceleration and mouse smoothing, just like in Crysis 2.
If Very High gives you less than 30 fps consistently, my recommendation is setting everything on High and then add some custom cvar values from the Very High preset to your autoexec.cfg.

Check the HTM file included for a list of the cvars that aren't locked on the console and their associated preset according to their values.

I personally use SMAA 2x. I've read everywhere that TXAA is more taxing in this game at least.

but FPS is all over the place, can get a good 40-50 thing going on, but occasionally it drops well within the 20's.
more than id like to max quality, id prefer to have a little more stable FPS

I noticed that the biggest fps dips happen when you have a lot of stuff rendered in the distance inside your field of view. Like in the second level of the game when you're in the train yard, the open field with lots of grass.

First of all, try setting to medium the shadows, post processing and to low the motion blur.Then use simple FXAA and 4xAF.
If you still have fps drops or low fps download and try the config tool mentioned above.

Only workaround for the crashing after level 1 is to download the 3dm save game and start at level 3. There is a walkthrough on IGN of the level 2 "Welcome to the Jungle" that is an hour long for those that don't want to miss anything using that fix.

i changed to med-low and now i got 60 fps. vsync off and the input lag is almost gone duh. Now i need to find something in-between for ~45 fps or so
