Tomb Raider has received its first review, courtesy of this month’s issue of GamesMaster.

Crystal Dynamics’ latest earned a 90% score. The magazine had high praise for Tomb Raider’s visuals – the title was given a 95% rating in the category.

Players can look forward to 10-15 hours for the main story, though GamesMaster notes that it’ll take 20 to fully explore the island.

The magazine also enjoyed the “vivid” hubs and final third of the game “with its spectacular bombast”. GamesMaster wished Tomb Raider included more side tombs, but the ones present in the game are a joy to discover. For those wondering: there aren’t many quick time events.

GamesMaster sums up:

“Sitting back exhausted we were left with just one question dribbling forth from our gaping jaws. How on earth are they going to top this in the sequel? Because of one thing there can be no doubt. Lara is back.”

Look out for a whole slew of Tomb Raider reviews early next week. Square Enix will be ending the game’s embargo on Monday – over a week before the game launches.

The early reviews will be like this:

"The action is incredibly awesome, I've been slaughtering everything with the shotgun so far, the cover system is a neat addition and fortunately puzzles are rare and not annoying like in the old games. Oh, and with the QTE's and dynamic camera it's like being in an interactive movie!!"

Well comments so far are not too derpy Razz

Quote:

levidya: if this game is atleast 20-30 hours long I might get it. it looks boring as hell so far though

foogled: Did he just get exp for opening a box?

lucben999: I hope you can disable those button prompts.

foogled: You don't really die in this game do you... I mean, there's the gruesome parts later, but she's been smacked over by a deer, fallen from 2 fairly high ledges and burned her entire arm. Then she just marches on.

foogled: That's a horrible menu

levidya: looks annoying to navigate

Viewer: That is a terrible user interface.

After playing the first part and exploring a bit,I must say one thing...give the bitch a break. Laughing

QTE's are too frequent in the beginning, hopefully there aren't too many of them later in the game.
Exploring is fun and hunting too, game looks good and the atmosphere seems spot on...these are only impressions based on the very beginning though.

Would love to wait for the pc version, but this game just seems too good to wait.

The death animations are a bit too brutal for my taste.

I mean a guy just grabbed Lara's head and cut her throat open with a fucking machete. Surprised

On the other hand, she ain't going easy on enemies either.

Well that actually sounds like a strong point to me. Also, watching Lara's deaths in the previous Tomb Raider games was one of the best things in them.

Also, for the guys playing it on the 360, let us know about the tombs, platforming, and the puzzles, etc.

It's good to hear that this seems like a great game from most people's initial impressions. Looking forward to the PC release.

Yeah, it's completely region locked, same as BioShock Infinite. Best price I've seen for this one is $30 on Nuuvem. However, I won't even consider buying it till I see gameplay reviews from our fellow humpers that are playing it on the derpbox.

Yeah, nuuvem has it for a great price.
Same with Far Cry 3.

This is a fantastic game in its own right. Yes the QTEs are plentiful but dont let that spoil the game for you. The gfx are really good for x360, cant wait to try it on pc. This is as close to an Uncharted game a PC gamer will get at this time, and thats a compliment.

It's really polished and seems very diverse atm. Story seems good and mature, havent played that long to fully judge it though.
