The G500 is as close as you'll get to the mx518.
However I personally found the G9x to be better than then G500 (and the NAOS 5k to have a better form).

What about the Magic Mouse, it is sleek in design and has a bunch of built in features. I bet it wouldn't be good for gaming though.

That is one of the least ergonomic mice out there. The touch sensitive top is quite good to use, but the thing itself is just horrible. Don't do it.

Ive been thinking of getting a new keyboard.
My mx518 is still kicking, and I got a few spares I collected over the years hardly used..so I think Im set on mice for about 5 decades with them..lol
95% of my keyboards have been the 'rubber bubble' type. not mechanical. Been looking around, but not sure which cherryMX type i would need.
Blues, look good as I do a LOT of typing for work, but also game a good bit. And I like the idea of the click and bump. But cant find any good examples of how loud it would be. I dont mind noise so much though.
My case and fans for example, long as I don't have to yell over it, its quiet enough
But I don't want a keyboard that sounds like one of the old IBM 'clacker' keyboards either. I got one of them stored downstairs, it sounds like typing on an old typewriter.
Anyone have any recommendation on a good daily cherryMX switch type? I spend about 12 hours a day on my PC between work and gaming.

Might help if you read the entire thread first.

Otherwise stick with Ducky's. They're the kings of mechanical boards.
in general
blues= typing
browns = middleground typing and gaming
blacks=fps as you dont want accidental key presses and you dont really need to double tap as much as you would in true RTS games (not ideal for typing though)
reds = lighter blacks
greens?? = heavier blues??
If you can order them and want to try this, you can get the key tester pack for 5 bucks

Give This Guide a read through to about mechanicals and why even PS/2 ports are still better for keyboards than USB |
I ordered it and here is what I found.

Cherry MX Black - No Bump, No Click, No Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Red - No Bump, No Click, No Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Brown - Slight Bump, Subtle Click, Subtle Tactile Feedback
Cherry MX Blue - Big Bump, Loud Click, Very Distinct Tactile Feedback
I can't tell a difference at all between the Black and Red. |
Browns are best for working/gaming.

That would be nice for casual browsing but not for gaming, I'd be interested in seeing a video of someone trying to use the Magic Track Pad for gaming.
I only say Browns over Blues because Blues it's hard to tap repeatedly, and Browns are the only other choice that has that tactile feedback of the actuation point. Besides I hear it works best for gaming/typing.

I decided on the Steel Series Sensei primarily because of it's design but it feels like a huge rock compared to my old Razer Diamondback. If I can find something better I'll be selling this Sensei on eBay.

Really?
I had the Naga (and epic) before this one, this one is way smaller then the Naga (and epic).
So is the Diamondback that much smaller then the Naga (and epic)?

Deathadder all the way for me, I will never own a wireless mouse....ever! Don't need 30 buttons on my mouse either, keeping it simple, and that's why I love the deathadder.
For keyboard, saitek eclipse II, been using saitek keyboards for close to 10 years now, never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down!

Thats what I got now saitek eclipse II, dont like it at all.
keys feel 'soft and mushy' when typing..
Its been only 6 months and my cntl and shift key have wore an ever so slight groove in the track they follow.so if I dont push directly down on them they wedge ever so slightly at an angle and wont go down without more force and a 'pop' of breaking free.
The spacebar since day one has had a cheap 'rattle and slight seesaw' action to it. Its not nice and tight feeling when paying attention it or that slapping it with a thumb.

It was good the first month or so. And I can say the lighting and the actual keys themselves are done well.. I'm on here at least 12 hours a day between work and play, and none have any wear or rub off of the letters yet, or getting that 'shiny dulled' edge wear some cheap keyboards do on the edges of the keys.
Just the feel of the keys actual connection to the keyboard itself I dont like..haha

The leap motion looks awesome, and is quite affordable too. Too bad it's 3 months away.

I'm curious I found the Razer Taipan which looks fairly similar, but I hear when you quickly move the mouse there is a negative acceleration effect which I think slows down your quick movements. I hear this is an undesirable effect. This effect is also built directly into the mouse and isn't customizable in the driver software included.
My question is if anyone knows is, is this something new or was this actually true with the Razer Diamondback?
I've been using the SteelSeries Sensei for a few days now and I've noticed things no one has ever mentioned in reviews. Such as you can push the middle mouse button to the right and this actually triggers the middle mouse click. If you push it to the left nothing at all happens. I think this is poor design especially for an ambidextrous mouse. If a lefty was using this mouse the middle mouse button may actually feel different to them. Then I've had times when the mouse just totally freaks out and feels like I'm moving the cursor through molasses then suddenly I'm on cotton and then back to molasses. Maybe my computer was busy thinking too hard but I don't remember these problems with the Diamondback at all.

Dunno, I like the feel of Imperator (my bf has it), but I'd go with logitech. Dunno, both are kinda pricey for me atm

I only read what I wrote now, and I see how it sounds. To be clear this is Imperator:

I hate how logo of their mice glow nonstop, put it on the bottom for all I care. So the Taipan you can turn it off in the driver software I hear.

You can do that with pretty much all Razer mouse products afaik.
I got the imperator too and it's good mouse.

Maybe with the newer mice but you couldn't in the past. I just got the Taipan and it is so different from the Sensei. The Sensei has a bunch of useful features in the drivers to help drawing perfectly straight lines but honestly don't see a need for it. The Taipan feels similar to the Diamondback but seems to have a bunch of sharp edges. Not sure which one I want to keep so far. Leaning toward Taipan but I've only been using it a few hours now.

@ivan1real thanks
they only sell Corsair and Logitech mechanical keyboards here. K60,K90, G710.
My question is, is K60 any good? I don't need that many macros as K90, so is it worth the investment?

Both are great but I believe the price difference is small so you should probably consider getting the K90 for those couple of extra features. You should also read about the switches more as they are for different type of usage.
http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide#post_6009482
Both K60 and K90 come with red switches so you should read if they suit you. Best is going to the store and testing them yourself.
