I finished it yesterday (I stopped halfway through earlier) and I didn't really like it. It all looks excellent and all (though a bit stale, shiny and 'plastic' like all of their games), but it was so boring. I don't understand anymore why people still play shooters. I guess FPS is the first genre I don't give a shit about anymore, I'm getting old Sad

Looks good though, that's all I got out of it. I finished it, like all Crysis games, so that's something. I personally wouldn't pay for this glorified tech demo, at least Crysis 1 was fun, this one isn't.

http://gamasutra.com/view/news/187602/Whats_holding_back_Crysis_3.php

Quote:
Crytek founder Cevat Yerli is frustrated. When Gamasutra asks him about the fact that Crysis 3 isn't making the same kind of splash as its predecessors, it's obvious that this is a raw topic for him. The original game sits at a 91 Metacritic, while the PC version of the sequel has an 86. As of this writing, Crysis 3 scores a 78 on PC.

This, despite the fact that Yerli tells Gamasutra that the game is "so far, our masterpiece."

"It is better than Crysis 2. It is better than Crysis 1. Technical and creatively, and storytelling -- all aspects," he says.

Even if that's true -- after all, it is, to a great extent, subjective -- the developer anticipated lower ratings this time around. After researching, Crytek found "about 20 games that we analyzed that got hammered, sequels or three-quels, where number two, number three, or number four got significantly lower ratings than the previous iterations."

He lays the blame on two major factors.

One is the current console generation creating "fatigue" in gamers. "Some games have lost up to 20 percent, despite the fact that the games are quite good still," Yerli says. "That's because there's a certain fatigue level with the old generation currently. The markets are down." In his words, "people's expectations are much more radical than the current generation of games are doing."

"I think the new generation of consoles will reinvigorate that and help to elevate that again, and elevate new concepts of gaming which old platforms are right now limiting, too."

He also places some blame on the fact that the original Crysis came to the market "free of any burden."

When it launched in 2007, only on PC, it was released against first-generation Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. Thanks to that, "it was so different to others that the relative impact it created was so much more bigger than Crysis 2 or Crysis 3," Yerli says.

And if there's one thing you just can't compete with, it's the subjectivity of human memory. "So, for me, the relative impact that Crysis 3 has created is lower than what Crysis 1 did. But I would think at any level it's better than Crysis 2, and it's certainly still better than Crysis 1. People remember Crysis 1 much bigger than it was, because it had a high impact," Yerli says.

He notes that Crysis 3 has triple the budget of the original game in the franchise -- a budget it can only get thanks to the fact that it's multiplatform. But that creates limitations.

"The consoles are eight year old devices. Of course, in one way or another, they will limit you. It's impossible not to limited by a limited console. By definition it's the case. So if it were PC only, could we have done more things? Certainly, yes. Could we have afforded a budge to make a game like Crysis 3 PC only? No. People have to understand that this is a journey of give and take."

FFS, $66 million budget. Crying or Very sad Next gen is scary Sad

I completely agree

Facepalm

What in the fuck possesses them to even come up with this? Why must it go away? For what reason?

Quote:
“Online and social can reignite single-player in a new type of context and provide benefits that will make you want to be a part of a connected story-mode rather than a disconnected story-mode. Sure, if the technology forces you to play a traditional single-player game online, that doesn’t make sense but if it’s offering actual benefits to be online then you want to be part of it.”

I do, do I? I'm pretty sure I can decide that for myself, considering they'd consider most 'benefits' to be shit like social media integration.

I dont know why so much hate. Haven´t beat the campaign, i´m about to finish it, but i see nothing wrong with it, it´s quite challenging on post-human warrior. Gameplay-wise it´s pretty standard sure, but still it´s different from most fps out there. It might not be as "open-world" -as you call it- as crysis 1, but i dont have a finger up my butt telling me when and how to do things. Maybe some people get carried away by reviews and other people´s thoughts, kinda like a placebo effect, it happens a lot these days. I´m not saying the campaign is absolutely great, but it´s not utter shit either. I dont think the overall game deserves a 7.
I know graphics don´t matter for most people, but there is a HUGE difference between playing at 1920x1080 medium details and 2560x1600 very high. It´s definitely the best looking game up to know, sometimes I even stand still just to look at the environments.
Mp is Crysis 2.1, I enjoyed c2 and and I enjoy c3 mp as well even though it´s the same thing but minor tweaks. It´s cod with nanosuits, sure, but that plus amazing graphics is more than enough for me.

I also thought people would like it a bit more than they do. The first half of it, up until the aliens took over as the main enemies I thought it was very entertaining. But it seems I am the minority. Oh well Razz

I need to actually, you know, play it before I have a better idea of it.
But I'll be damned if I'll do it with the current "working" cracks (seems like you still have to load the maps manually? Yeah, I think not... ).

Manually load maps? What kind of ghetto crack are you looking to use? Shocked RLD's crack is copy-paste-play, as simple as every crack out there can be. Confused

Crashes for me right after psycho shows me the city through those metal blinders while it apparently tries to load the next level... thought it was a common problem and that the maps still neede to be loaded manually.
I'm using the internal 1.1 reloaded after running the update.

Ugh... now I'll need to update my drivers Neutral
