Simple question - well two questions related. 1. Can I change the format of a HD from Fat32 to NTFS whilst retaining all the data currently on the drive? I am pretty sure I have done this in the past (admittedly it was with a dos command(s) 2.If not can someone suggest a quick easy app to split a movie file (Mkv) into 4 gig or less file sizes? Thank you. I am sure I can find these answers on Google but we all know its full of misinformation. I trust the nerdy knowledge here. You could do this on XP, not absolutely sure if you can in win 7 but it would be logical that it still lets you do that

Boot from Windows disk, open command prompt (cmd.exe) and "convert c: /fs:ntfs". If the drive is not "c:", use the correct letter. Thanks I knew there was a way, it's not the OS drive just an external 1tb I use for the TV.

Just out of interest can anyone suggest a quick easy way to split movie files to 4 gig or less parts?

You can use MKVtoolnix and in Global tab split by size. My IMDb Ratings \| Fix NFOHump Cookies \| Hide Users / Threads \| Embedded Content (Videos/GIFs/Twitter/Reddit) \| The Derps Collection “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

Avoid converting FAT32 to NTFS and vice versa at all cost. The filesystem structures in FAT32 and NTFS differ drastically and there is a good chance you will end up with broken files (depending of how many of them there are and how big/small they are).

Yeah, for now I have gone down the spilitting files route. Eventually I will back it all up and format it to NTFS
