I do feel the explosions can be better, the FX itself looks really dated.

explosions have always looked bad in arma(mods are gonna fix this bohemia is not i bet)
Voice work is better than arma2, but still needs work
Love the new animations, weapons systems(would like better menu's) and the physics are a nice touch.
I am looking forward to what else if comming to ARMAIII

I've heard that it starts fine with dummy acc but its not working for me. I mean it just goes to the ARMA 3 store page and thats it.

Damn they done good, I like the changes, the gear ui etc and general display for items etc is really good, the editor has some nice stuff in it, can see future missions being made with some handy toolsets added for making unique stuff here.
love the AI, they really dont feel robotic to fight against no more to me, they are vulnerable just as I am instead of lock on aimbot modes they used to be..

I've tried the alpha with the ALI crack. Damn its GOOD! Its 100 times more optimized than ARMA 2. I am running this one maxed out pretty smooth! I am getting it definitely!

just running mission with 40 enemy 8 vehicles.
Still on Dual core e6600 @ 3.6ghz 4gb elcheapo ocz gold ram, and my trusty 4870 1gb ati card.. No slow down, no glitches, only time I see very very minute steps in a frame is when I open more the map ive not seen as it pulls in resources. thats it, other than that fluid as fook.
Smooth you say? Id have to go yes so far so good..
this pc is like 5years old or more now and still going strong
you probably will ask for resolution next so, 1770 window mode on 24" run all games that way due to wanting move mousey between screens.
Textures High (seen no difference really with ultra txtures)
shadows High (anything lower is pointless arma always runs better and still goes for arma3 with shadows higher than lower)
stopped using AA in arma since they put in FXAA/SMAA I find FXAA High lovely to use and good for the eyes on building textures etc..
Im surprised as fuck how well its running in alpha, and again on such an old rig, but this may change with early arma3 release, the arma fan base went through with arma2 a few bad ass patches that pushed perfomance one way then the other in the past at early stages of the game, but settled down eventually.. The new cpu's since that came out after arma2 had a spate of bad performance until patches settled it down. Maybe same is happening here as some top end rigs and cards I see really low performance I think for the system they have.
what im liking the most and probably annoyed a ton of people with some drivers, is when in arma2 you would look at the ground and up normalyl the lighting would change and go fucking bright as hell and you could not see anything. They fixed that for me anyhow once in arma2 and then next patch and to the end as it is now it was back again.
All in all happy with it so far and enjoying the editor for the moment, back into mp later but need to see what new changes this editor brings.

Ah well im going to home now, gonna test it out how it runs 1440p maxed out (gonna use FXAA or SMAA since MSAA gives in every game like 100% performance hit).

Hey I'm a complete newcomer to the ARMA series, what would be the best community sites for it?
I already bookmarked this Armaholic site with the custom scenarios and mission packs for downloads. Which other sites are good?

Seems like Arma2-content is as easily portable as initially suspected.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

very important for me cause i am not into this futueristic/ prototype setting. I need my T72s and AKs. Now i hope as promised they will deliver a content system with internal download manager so people dont have to go to websites to download maps and addons
