only time will tell, but it a crack doesnt appear, guaranteed ea will make all their games do this shit... along with micro transactions of course, maybe an "EA FastTrack (tm et all)", which allows you to skip the queues on the servers (for a small price daily...)

This kind of drm is the future for aaa pc gaming. Diablo 3 set the trend. Simcity is the start of a new era in pc gaming: online games that do not have a single reason for an online connection besides drm.
The good is that, perhaps, more real good and classic pc games will be made cause it will make a profit.
The bad, well, less iso demos, and all kind of crap dlc and microtansactions for extra income and server costs.
Good thing is you don't need aaa games, most of the budget is for marketing anyway. (why els would diablo 3 be played more then path of exile)

They still lined up to give it a 9.5 apparently..so while they gain some credibility for dropping the score because of the server, there is no way in fucking hell this deserved a 9.5, maybe they got it reversed, 5.9 sounds about right.

I'm really really mad at EA about this game.
What fucking sucks is the game itself is INCREDIBLE. It is by far the best Simcity yet. It's just amazingly fun, and I get sucked in for hours.
EA and their fucking bullshit has ruined it though. At this point i'm done, and i'm going to chargeback my credit card. The game either crashes and I loose all my progress, or suddenly out of nowhere they'll say my city is basically de-synced and roll my progress back by a hour.
It's fucking horrendous what EA has done to this game with this shit. It's even more shameful considering how GOOD the actual game is.
And BTW, the game does have placeable airports. You can place Muni airports in a particular city. Only the international airport is a 'grand project'. Which makes sense. An international airport is a regional thing.

What server you on Mchart?
try oceanic, or East Europe 2. its the 2 we are on and been ok on them so far.

I've been on every server. They all have problems. No server is 'safe'. EA fucked this game so hard with this server bullshit. The fact that they are a multi-million dollar company, knew how many pre-orders were taken, and couldn't get their shit working ahead of time is a fucking joke.
There is no apologizing for this. People compare this to Diablo 3's launch.
It's worse. At least in Diablo 3 when you got in you got in. There generally weren't progress/roll back issues.
In Simcity if you crash, or the server decides to de-sync with you you are fucked. Hours of progress will be lost.

Weird, on oceanic we had a bit of delay on 'updating' each others cities when spectating of about 5 minutes. And the invite delay. But other than that haven't had a problem on oceanic at all.
I think in the 20+ hours I got on that map so far, the only sync thing I had was when I went to log out, it told me "please wait while syncing city" and took about 15 seconds to close.
Maybe because we had the region made and saved early on and haven't made new ones? not sure.

Not defending it as flawless. Craploads of people are having problems.
Just trying to figure out what the difference could be..to maybe help others get it working.

And like I said placeable airports are in game. You have muni airports that ship out cargo and bring in tourists to your city. Besides the international airport regional project.
Arcologies are technically around as well as some of the great projects are similar.
Subways aren't around, but there are a ton of new mass transit options that negate the use of subways.
