They actually did them already, same with tiers (people could vote what they deemed best for each tier). They pre-planned stuff up to at least 2 mil, just need to push an update.
It's amazing to see how many people are dissatisfied with the current gaming industry and rely on KS in order to please their *proper RPG* needs. "Too niche, there's not enough audience for those", the big publishers said...hah! take that fuckers
But they're right, it's not a big enough audience. Not for games that cost 30-50 hundred milion dollars or more. Unless things like Project Eternity, Wasteland 2 or other KS games start selling millions of copies it will still be small fries to them.
But for us? Hell YEAH, all hail kickstarter for being so popular and letting people who know how to make games have creative control
Yeah, if you put the numbers in perspective, Star Citizen, for example, has "only" around 150K backers for all the money it raised. In terms of units sold that is an absolutely disastrous performance for a big publisher title, and most successful KS campaigns don't even reach 100k. You really can't compare those campaigns with the "normal" AAA productions.
It's gonna be interesting to see how all this develops when the big games funded by KickStarter will actually get released

well, we had Dragon Age. it was suppose to be good CRPG comeback and it was. but ruined and DLC's to death
I think most successful KS-projects were started by people who have already proven themselves. In this case I like to "pre order" this game since I trust these developers won't bullshit us. Even if I am disappointed that TNO won't return and the Planescape setting won't be used. But then again with Monte Cook on Board (did work on the Planescape campaign setting for TSR) they will very likely create another interesting setting with awesome lore.
"You’ve got to be freaking kidding me!! We just funded in six hours!?!?!
Our heads are still spinning at the incredible response we have had from today's support of our Kickstarter campaign. We had plans to roll out our stretch goals and to write our Kickstarter updates but never in our wildest dreams did we think we would fund this quickly!!! We are joyfully scrambling right now to get a longer update and some stretch goals in front of you as soon as we can. We should have more to say later today.
You are all unbelievably awesome and we could not be happier about receiving your trust in us. For many years we have wanted to get back to making this style of RPG but it appeared that the market was going everywhere but that direction. Almost every article and new game was focused on being an MMO, multi-player or micro-transition based. This wasn’t our style and we couldn’t generate interest in the classical narrative type of RPG that we all grew up making and playing. Thank you for backing our vision once again and we will not let you down. We will continue to communicate and and make sure we solicit input such that the game is hitting all the right notes. "
I would settle for $ 110 right now, but it takes 1 or 2 days before the prepaid CC might be charged. At that point even the $ 350 package might be a goner. KS should allow PayPal as well, but yeah too risky I guess.
Fuck, I get all emotional about this. In retrospect, PS:T was the apex of gaming for me. I was a bit too young and a bit too spoiled for great games, the era being what it was, to fully understand how sovereign it truly was. Now that age and the travesty that is modern gaming have recalibrated my standards, PS:T stands as a veritable work of art against the burger-games that barely hold interest for their 5-hour campaigns and only do so with multi-million dollar graphics. It's high time a game succeeded in stirring emotion and making me think about deeper things than solutions for puzzles again.
I don't believe in Jesus, but I believe in Brian Fargo.
Thinking about the $ 350 package (YOUR NAME AND EPITAPH will appear in-game IN THE VALLEY OF DEAD HEROES) Sounds nice, still missing that in GW2 (the epitaphs).
