As of 20 minutes ago Amazon is no longer selling the digital version of the game on their website.

This is going to be a huge blow against EA and sales.

It seems retail boxed copy are retired as well. Neutral

Look what Amazon wrote.

Important Note on "SimCity"
Many customers are having issues connecting to the "SimCity" servers. EA is actively working to resolve these issues, but at this time we do not know when the issue will be fixed. Please visit https://help.ea.com/en/simcity/simcity for more information.

Huge blowback(sp?) for US customers, Amazon is the biggest e-retailer and probably people will stay away from it even more.

It's pretty huge IMO. EA will suffer greatly because of it. The only reason Amazon did it is because EA likely told them they are no longer offering refunds of Simcity to retailers.

It's 6 past midnight and you can't buy the game in the UK right now. It's there in the Origin store but you get "Product no longer available" if you try and click through to it.

Give it a few more hours and they will probably start denying all existence of the game, write it off as mass hysteria/mass hypnosis/mass delusion, and set a release date for October 2014.

Well this escalated rather quickly. I'm proud of EA though, that they grown some balls in just one year to attempt what even almighty Blizzard failed at. Hopefuly they'll learn that Error 37 model is flawed one and it's best to stick to making singleplayer games, you know, playable offline. It kinda makes sense, so maybe they'll realize this. Philosopheraptor Oh who am I kidding, they won't. It's EA Troll Face

EA didn't learn anything from the Cities XL MMO fiasco. Sad thing: lots of people ignored the warnings and paid for the damn thing.

Now, let me get back to Tropico 4. Feels so good to be El Presidente! Very Happy

At around 11 GMT EA shutdown a lot of the server side regional things.

So yes, the game runs now, but you are basically playing singleplayer. Even if there are other people in the region. Their servers are no longer doing the stuff that allows sims to work/travel/educate between cities in a region, and regional services aren't propagating.

So yeah. The game kind of blows now even though people can play.

maybe its ea's cunning plan to increase the crack free window, by not letting people play, and messing up the servers, that'll make cracking it a bit trickier... nothing like cutting off their nose to spite their face

It is a good game.ill say that but you can tell they are upto something with all this internet only connection and i hope it does back fire on them as it isnt the greatest idea as when problems like this show up its no wonder people want single player only option but with ea doing this there taking that very option away.
