It's your right to have that opinion...
But I think you kinda forget the humorous factor emo has... It's just laughing and joking and a bit bashing, not more. Its no real hatred against them, its just a funny little thing to laugh about. It can get pretty satirical, and sometimes rather cynic, but not more, we who like to pick on them (or at least me...) know how far we can go without really hurting those emo kids.
I mean, look at sublime, he's got some emo aspects (at least that haircut of his... , but he seems to know and understand the humour. I don't think he really feels offended by reading this thread (I hope), it's all jokes after all!

LOL what a shit tie. Sure, he looked like a goon, but those twats who were picking on him are fucking pathetic. How many of them were there?
Looks like about 5 different guys had a go. The cowards. Wish syco could have been there to show them a couple of wrist breakers or something.

Aye
I swear, after about 96-97, music totally died...no great bands today like a nirvana or alice in chains or stone temple pilots (well, guys from STP are still around but they will never work with Scott Wailin again so there will never be another STP show )...The only good "new" band I can think of would be Velvet Revolver but I dont consider them new cuz its Scott Wailin (STP vocalist), Guns N Roses on lead and rythem guitar and on drums and the bassist is from Suicidal Tendancies.
I dunno, music today, well, the "new" rock, fuckin sucks...even Greenday is getting fuckin stupid...the new "wake me up when september ends" is so stupid...i mean, ok, the first time I heard it on the radio, it wasnt bad...but one, its over played and the more u hear it, it lacks the original GreenDay feel...I mean, isnt GreenDay, like the name GreenDay another term for Weed day or something to do with marijuana and punkness? ...I dunno, i think Billy Joel is going soft...

Who fucking cares? If people like some music or style let them just enjoy their shit. Thats why there are so many genres, becase we all have different tastes there are many different genres. Cant believe people see their likings to be superior than others.

This is rather pathetic imo. You got to have alot of spare time on your hands to, for example, make that video posted in here. The one who made that, is in my book completely pathetic. I bet he hates gay people too...
I mean sure, it may seem a bit ridicoulous, with the way the act and all (yet I don´t care about that either, be whatever the fuck you want to be), but complaining on how people look? Come on, that is seriously ridicoulous. Get annoyed on people that doesn´t dress they way you like, and then even make A FUCKING VIDEO of it? Gosh, what´s with all the hate...
I´d say pointing and laughing at how people look, is rather childish, really. If I told you your mom or girlfriend looks like hell, and she should definetly change her haircut (cause I think so), and put some damn makeup on, what would you say? Sure, some may think it´s not exactly the same thing, but some on, it´s not far from it.
Then at the same time, I believe in freedom of speech, but why is it so hard to just say "I don´t like it", and leave it at that.
And as nouse said, why do we have to label everything? Generalization sucks hard.

STP sucks....buddy, what planet do u live on? sure, some of their shit is kinda slack, but there first 2 cd's are amazing and the rest do have a few good songs on em...u havent heard the right songs...get Plush, Piece of Pie, Naked Sunday, Wicked Garden, Where The River Goes, Big Empty, Dead and Bloated, Creep, Vasoline, Crackerman, Meatplow, Hollywood Bitch, I Got You (soft song, but it is amazing if u listen to what its about, well, if u can relate, which I can...) etc...seriously, the songs from Core are heavy man...if ur basing ur opinion on what they came out with before they broke up, like Lady Picture Show and Days of The Week and Sour Girl...yeah, they arent that good, I like em still, but they arent true Scott Wailin (vocalist) songs....seriously, download say the first 6-7 songs i listed and tell me they suck....he's almost as good as Lane

Accelleron wrote: | People that bash emo aren't better than people that bash gays, lesbians, jews, other races, etc.
For me it's pretty simple: If you don't like it, feel free to exchange jokes with your friends about it, feel free to avoid them, etc. But don't start openly acting holier-than-thou toward another group because of their life choices. There are plenty of social groups I dislike, but I don't consider my opinion to be worth more than theirs to me, and since they create no real interference for my life except a casual annoyance, my policy leans closer to "fuck them" than "fuck you".
That said, of all the fringe groups I would say I lean closest to the goth/punk/emo subculture in dress and hairstyle, although I don't like the bitchy attitude they are infamous for. |
Naw man, when u deliberatly put urself into a category and act a certain way to "fit in" i think they warrant a lil harrassment. Its human nature to make joke of those who draw the attention to themselves. Like, I have no problem with dressing how "emo" kids do, I prolly fall into that category myself - I wear all black, black military boots, band shirts, long ass dreads, black bandana's, tatoos etc. Its the mentallity they all have which makes me laugh. All of em think they're rebels, all have "issues" they think are the worst, they cut themselves (for what reason?) etc etc...yet most of their issues are made up in their head so they can fit "into the norm"...anyway, maybe through teasing, they will get the point that, yeah its ok to feel suicidal or have problems, but to deliberatly create problems for urself or to make them up just to fit into a certain "crowd" is retarded and lame and they should stick to be individuals rather than "one of the group" - hence ending the teasing.....
But the same reasoning can be applied to these white suburban born-again "black" kids. U know how many I know or have met that think they're "gangsta" cuz they sell a lil weed or cuz they have the latest Sean Jean shit, or the newest Throwback jersey...get the fuck outta here. That shit makes me just as sick as the "emo" kids do. Honestly, for these reasons I think music has died. I remember when rap was actually fuckin grimey and badass and not everyone and their mother listened to it. usually, it was only those who could identify. For instance, I remember back in the day jamming to Whats Beef - Biggie while rolling up on some next crowd to beat t he shit outta em.
Or doing other things, not because some guy on tv makes it look cool, but because u have to and u need to do it to eat/sleep/live.
Which begs another question. These white kids think they're gangsta's cuz they were shit 50 cent and all these fags wear right? dont they realize actual ghetto folk (the ones their trying to be like) cant afford shit like that and dont roll around with the latest fashion gear....

I didnt say that was the definition of emo. Its just thats the mentallity most of the kids nowadays have who listen to the music.
I prolly listen to emo (gimme some bands and I'll tell ya) and I listen to shit that is "dark", "morbid" etc like Cannibal Corpse, Cradle of Filth etc etc...but there are always exceptions to the rule.
Every headbanger doesnt dress the part/act the part, every rapper doesnt dress the part/act the part, every raver doesnt dress the part/act the part etc etc
were speakin in generalized terms here...if u wanna break it down how u and acc did, then yeah, ud be right still - but that goes with anything. There is always an exception to the rule so to speak.

simply because i know many people who like the music, but none of them got scars on their arms
