Hi folks. The exciting news today is that we're officially heading to Steam. We'll be running a beta pre-purchase on Steam and providing all Kickstarters access to that when it happens. We don't have any set timelines yet but we should see the pre-orders in six to eight weeks by my estimation.
Other than that, we've got our noses to the grindstone and things are looking good. As always, check out our forums at www.stardrivegame.com and follow me @zer0sumgames on twitter for up to date info and game discussion.
On this last day of our existence, I have an update for you all on StarDrive.
It's almost done.
We are on Steam right now, getting everything ready to go live in January. We're going to follow the Endless Space / Sins of a Solar Rebellion model by releasing a Beta on Steam, soliciting community feedback, and rolling out a full release a couple of months later.
When the Beta goes live on Steam in January, every backer will receive a Steam key through whatever email they have associated with their backer account.
The StarDrive forums are becoming quite popular and if you haven't already signed up, please come on by to read up on the latest specifics about the game's development and to put your 2 cents in about what you want to see. There are also several folks who are doing Let's Play videos there.
I love 4x space strategy games and this looks right on the planetary universe scale, this is StarDrive which is a 4x Action-Strategy game, where the goal is to build a space empire. Now I know we've had a lot of 4x space strategy games in the past and upcoming ones, but a good number of them have dashed my space dreams. But everything about this game could make it a worthy classic, we shall see.
Nice and simple game. The UI is pretty easy to use, this by itself is a huge plus since the last 4x game I played was SotS2. But there are a lack of information still. Like a overview of different ship designs.
I'm not too sure about the depth just yet, it does seem really shallow.
I have so many tiles on terran planets yet even if I count all the ones I can build from research (there aren't many), and since you can only build one of such per planet, what is the point of so many tiles?
For a one man project, I think the price is a bit steep, hopefully the full game will offer more features.
Tiles are for buildings as well as for ground combat. UI is simple but sometimes counterintuitive.
Shallow? come on... its CIV in SPACE!!!
Ship designs are lacking in UI departement like why i cannot zoom in but outfitting ships and testing how they work is awesome. From simple fighter hull to huge capitals. So far im loving it

You've never played any of the 4X space games have you?
It's hard to best veteran's nostalgia, but if you come in fresh, there are plenty. Galactic Civ 2 is worth a try if Master of Orion 2 is a bit too dated for you. Distant star is pretty nice as well.
i did play alot of 4x games and most are either too complicated (i do not like to fiddle with numbers much) or are like sword of the stars - it just dosnt make me wana play it.
Distant worlds was too focused on management and combat felt lame.
For me the best 4x was Pax imperia 2 after that is star controll 3 - As for MoO2 i never got around to play it.(DO NOT JUDGE!) - did not like the stardocks games too - i TRIED.
so as you see im more of an rts type of 4x person

I really don't think it's a case of nostalgia, because I go back to that game every now and then and it's great every time, which can't be said about the vast majority of games I feel nostalgic about.

I see why you'd think StarDrive is not shallow now. That's fine. I have more fun in this game than the ones released in the last few years. The lack of depth can be fixed by mods, I'm not concerned.
Yes its correct. And uncle google can help (its not a rant - thats a tip)
Oh and i almost forgot. After plaing it for over 12h im loving it. There are bugs and things i do not like but overall its what i was missing in SotSE (scale). I will see how it changes untill final version and i'll probably (90%) buy it - This guy deserves to get money for his next projects
