I've been complaining on and off about my PC lately in the bitching session, but this has me puzzled.
A while ago, my GTX 470 started showing artifacts during gaming. BSOD-ing. And it extended into normal windows usage after a bit, rendering the PC useless.
I found an old 8800 GTS 512 and started using that, while I RMA-ed the 470 (it's at Point of View now).
About 3 weeks of normal usage have passed, but now the 8800 is also artifacting. First in games, now in windows.
I'm really confused as to what it could be. I don't have the financial means to replace everything. But either just the motherboard or just the PSU.. might work.
Normally I'd replace parts to check what works, but in this case.. I don't have a second set of MB/CPU/RAM lying around, nor another PSU.
Anyone with thoughts?

Granted, I'm intrigued, but that wouldn't make my cards show white lines across the screen in POST and during the screen when selecting if I want to boot windows normally or in safe mode, right?

Yeah, I figured that after I posted that.
I did get that 'driver stopped working and recovered' error a couple of times. But for the life of me, I can't find anything in msconfig that I don't recognize. Nor do I have a Temporary folder on C. Also searched for bitstream, but nope.
I have MSI AB running, but no spikes so far.
I kinda hoped this was it, at least I would've known then.

That sucks. 
But it's the reason why I carried a spare PSU and CPU(E4400, but still...  ) even when I moved into this rented apartment.

When I run Guiminer at max ("-v -w 256") I get graphical errors in Windows, from little errors to big grey/white squarish areas and some corruption, esp. when there's something else using the GPU. Doesn't bother me, but sometimes it causes a crash when I open a certain application that also use the GPU. On my GPU (overclocked 7950) I think it uses 24 stream clusters for 100% OpenCL computing which is much more strenuous on the GPU than the heaviest game. My GPU reach 10 degrees higher just by GUI-mining compared to running a heavily graphical game or app.

I have read both threads about it, but while the symptoms seem similar, I am unable to find proof of something like that running. No unknown startups in msconfig, no unknown processes running. And the GPU is using 0% while at a comfortable 50 degrees (will be 70 while gaming) and still show corruption every now and then. More when I start using it.
I'm confused..

Blow out any dust out of the card and try again. At least twice this has solved artifacting problems for me.
Also try different drivers.

Motherboards can do strange things too, I wouldn't rule it out. I guess the card has a problem now, otherwise I would suggest trying a different PCI-E slot, if that's possible.

Usually if mobo PCI-E slot aint working, its not gonna give any picture at all, it doesnt make card artifacting or BSOD.

See if you can find a different PSU just to try for now, or measure the voltages coming out of the PCI-e plugs with a multimeter. Or rather, tell the shop to do that

I'm sorry, but that's not shelling out extra cash in the right way, that was a bad decision. Tagan have never been a very good manufacturer. There's a reason their US and Asian branches have been closed (bankruptcy) and the only thing remaining is their German branch; with a whopping 3 or 4 PSUs they still manufacture and sell. They overpriced their products, because many of them sat around Seasonic price levels yet delivered nowhere near the same performance. They also only ever got 3 PSUs rated under the 80+ label, which says enough.

Unlucky or a really bad PSU.
I would actually vote for a horrible PSU.
Measure how much voltage your PSU is actually putting out on each line, could find your issue there.
And like the above poster said, Tagan is just.. well no no!
Personaly I just ordered a Rosewill Tachyon 650W because I had to warranty my Antec HCG-620 (Which was enough juice for Crossfire btw), the 12V dropped to 11.5V under load on the Antec.
Basicly something you should get really is Superflower / Rosewill / Seasonic if you want really good quality.

Funny you say that, I went looking for Tagan's guarantee time after posting that and found a really limited site with only 5 kinds on there, which got me worried.
I read some good reviews on the PSU I got (TG800-BZ Piperock), so I'm a bit surprised tbh. The 3 brands mentioned now aren't sold at the local shops tho. Just stuff like antec, cooler master, corsair, fortron, thermaltake..

Seasonic should be available Airbag. Got mine from MyCom. Rosewill and Superflower aren't easy to find, no, they're US brands.
As for your particular unit: it can sustain a fairly high wattage, but like I said, it's not even 80+ rated meaning it's inefficient as fuck. Moreover, it has a multi-rail design, which would be fine if the power distribution across its SIX (!) rails wasn't just 20W on each. For comparison; that's the kind of distribution Seasonic use for their low-end units, from 300-450W. A high power unit like that should deliver at least 25-30W per rail if it's a multi-rail design. 20W on 6 rails is an indication they can't actually channel the power without risking damage, because six is an aweful lot of rails (don't think SS or RW even have a 6-rail unit) and 20W is very little power for that kind of unit.
I know that last bit is meaningless to you, but I hope it still gets my point across because I suspect you'll get a new PSU

Yeah it seems MyCom have taken Seasonic out of their selection and the remaining Corsair units are all CWT by the looks of it. Not that those are bad, just not Seasonic

Indeed. The CX/GX versions the stores have are cwt. Those are an option if I end up needing a new one. The shop that has my PC currently has those Corsairs in stock, so I might be able to make a deal with them. Getting the part there, them lowering the checking costs.
Alternatively, I could go to salland or azerty I guess, and order online. They do have a broader selection. But I'd end up paying more than I can afford to be honest. Definitely if the GTX 470 is actually passed on (haven't heard from PoV yet).
