*sigh*

PC shop which I didn't expect to be retarded is retarded.
They checked the old 8800 in another case.. fine.. also doesn't work there. As expected.
They test another videocard in my case, which works fine.. So; it's just bad luck 2 died.

I told them it took the 2nd one 3 weeks to start artifacting, but nahh, all is fine!

Still replacing the PSU though. After this thread I can't trust it anymore.. so I had them order a Corsair CX600M which they'll install free of charge. which is good, since there's not much as annoying as replacing the PSU in a case Very Happy

Now all that's left is to wait for Point of View to send me a mail telling me the GTX 470 is unsalvageable. Maybe even with a cause.. but probably not.

The Corsair CX series is far from being a good series of PSUs, if you still can, I would recommend to reconsider something else.

And the PSU is overrated for it's wattage aswell, the 12V line can't supply more than ~500W even though the PSU is rated 600W.

I would definitely skip any Corsair CX PSU.

If you insist on sticking with Corsair, the HX series is actually decent compared to the CX.

Just buy the Corsair, CX/GX will do the job just fine.

.... why didn't you mention it when you quoted Breezer?

HX is not an option, the only one they have is about 185 euro's. I'm not in a position to spend more than about 90 and am bound to this list; http://norrod.nl/zkb_01com/29_psu/catalog.aspx
which I know sucks, but still is the most expansive out of all the other options apart from ordering online Sad

CX600 is not *that* bad, it's just a little inefficient. This is the new version Stige, which can actually sustain about 550W on the 12v rail.

The TX series Corsair is already a lot better than the CX.
And price is ~93€.

Okidoki, you win. I give up. I went to the computer shop and cancelled the order and told them I'd like my case back. Got it back, and they said I didn't owe them anything. They couldn't fix it after all. So all is well, and I'll be ordering a Seasonic from the interwebz, since the main thing you agree on is how they are made of awesome.

So.. ehm, G-serie 550w? M12II-620 Bronze? The rest doesn't seem to be modular, and I'm quite fond of that. But if for example a S12II-620 Bronze is much more awesome, so be it.

edit: please don't tell me that those are decent but what I really want is the x-series 80+ GOLD Laughing
edit2: lots of review reading later (including johnnyguru).. liking the g-series 550. The M12II is ancient, and while the S12II seems decent, it's not modular, and I like modular.
But since I dont know yet wether my 470 can be salvaged, I'm not in a hurry to order so I will wait for confirmation Very Happy

PSU arrived, went with the G-series 550w. Should be more than adequate. Also rated 80+ gold. But dammit that 8-pin cable is short.. Not sure if it'll make it with the GPU in the case, so I guess I'll have to find an extension cable somewhere. That'd also mean I'd be able to route it behind the motherboard, which is more neat anyway.

Also ordered a new GPU. The GTX 660 (not Ti), since werelds called everyone ordering nvidia below 220 euro's an idiot in his advice thread Smile. Had to stick to that trend (but I don't think this was out yet by then Laughing)

FUCKING FUCK!

Built in the Seasonic 550w, got my GTX 660. Everything was running nicely. Very impressed with the 27 degrees idle temp of the MSI GTX, 40 under some load.

Playing some Starcraft 2 campaign, finally ... mouse turns to artifacts ... *no signal*. And I have to hard power down.

what the shit.. I don't know anymore..

Things to try:
- Reinstall drivers
- Do a memory test and see if your RAM is okay
- Run prime 95 or something stressful on your CPU and see if it crashes then
- Reinstall windows
- Get it back to shop and see what part is really broken (obviously its not PSU or GPU)

I doubt reinstalling drivers/windows will help but worth a shot.

EDIT: Also you can try taking the mobo out of the case. Maybe something is short circuiting. Very doubtful though.

Ever get a jolt when you touch your case? May be static electricity, but may also be a short circuit. What case is it?

I haven't updated my thread in quite some time btw, need to reevaluate it but I don't think prices have changed much since my last update Razz

It's a CM Storm Sniper. Now that you mention it.. I may have been shocked once while feeling up the back end of my MB to find the 2nd Ethernet connector when I couldn't get my internet to work (which is becoming more of a thing lately). Been a while, but it's something. I did try holding my tongue against some parts of the case after that (which looked retarded), but couldn't get the same effect.

I ran prime95 for a while, which works nicely. Also installed new drivers when I got the card, which should eliminate the older ones. The 12v value of 4.5v scared me when reading that in both cpu-id and speedfan, but the BIOS tells me it's fine. I should still get a multimeter for that..

I probably should re-mount my motherboard.. Or run it laying on a cardboard box. Problem is, even if that works, chances are damage to this new GTX 660 may have already been done, and I won't know the difference..

I had this once from a horrid chinese PSU (Macron).

If I put my hand on the case I would get a constant slight buzz from it lol.

Heh.. I guess being lazy can sometimes offer insights.

I found this; http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/8196603881

The Starcraft 2 crash I had was pretty similar, main monitor going black, with the mouse turning artifacty.

I immediately assumed the worst, but that might not be the case. I played a few hours of skyrim / simcity / bf3 since then without issues so far *fingers crossed*.

Still frustrating though, I bought Starcraft 2 HotS, started playing, my 8800GTS died for good while in the menu. Now I can't even play it with the new card due to some stupid crash.

There is some good news. Point of View is retarded and lost my 470GTX, which they signed for upon receiving. So they're sending me a replacement 480GTX.

Also, thanks all for the advice. I really hope the crash was a Starcraft 2 thing and everything is solved after all. I just really don't like removing the motherboard Laughing
