The sword wielding thing refers to the 1998 PSX version I believe.
(And I don't think Metal Gear was used much in the old NES version, some super mainframe which you had to bomb with 8 or so C4 packs.)
(Then again the sword wield stuff also refers to a later installment of MegaMan I believe.)
Well I barely remember the game, I played through it with a friend many years ago but that's one of the only scenes I still remember somewhat clearly.
I don't know much about the Mega Man installments either but I think it refers to a event from one of the SNES (Super famicom?) installments which would be before Metal Gear Solid if so.
Game developers could release TV-style ‘pilot episodes’ for games on next-gen platforms to gauge interest before fully committing to a three or four year project, says Hideo Kojima.
The Metal Gear legend also told us that next-gen game development could be more social and based on user feedback. He spoke to us as part of his Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance world tour.
When asked whether new consoles could mean bigger development teams, Kojima replied: “It’s possible to make many things more realistic, but that doesn’t mean you should. You have to prioritise, and that is what’s going to separate the teams that succeed from the teams that don’t. A very deep, 20-30 hour game might need a bigger team and take three or four years.”
“[But] I think there’s a different way of tackling this problem: something similar to a TV series, where you can use pilot episodes to test the waters before you jump completely into the project… It can be distributed via download channels, so the player can try it out before production continues. Something like that wouldn’t take that long to create, maybe a year, and if it’s successful, you can continue.”
He added that next-generation consoles could encourage greater community interaction during the development process. “I think there’ll be a social aspect to game creation, because it will be more interactive. You’ll get user feedback, and I think there’ll be this back-and-forth between users and creators.”
Kojima was speaking as part of the next Edge magazine’s cover feature, in which we reveal how Konami’s next-gen game engine will power the next Pro Evolution Soccer title. It goes on sale March 14th.
He also revealed his first impressions of PS4 in a story we posted on Friday.
I like the idea. It's kinda like Kickstarter for non-indies. They work on a prototype and release it for a cheap price. If people "vote with their wallets" that they like it, they expand the concept to a full fledged game.
The idea is good, in theory; I just don't know what would happen practically: would people show enough interest in games that are not pew pew..?

This should be interesting: Heading off to interview Moby Dick Studio Head CEO Joakim Mogren.

The NES Metal Gear isn't even considered to be a real Metal Gear game by Kojima. It's just such a shit game, and I feel sorry for all the people that played that and thought it was 'Metal Gear'.
Joakim is 100% CGI in that trailer. This is an elaborate tech demo for the Fox Engine.
- It explains why the two are never in the same frame together
- It explains the bandages
- It explains why the game being on the Fox Engine was the big reveal.
If you look at his cheek during the interview, the shading seems suspicious. And the closer you look at it, I have a hard time believing he is actually there.
I don't believe it

I had the same idea watching the video. Something about "Joakim" just doesn't look lifelike...

Fake/exaggerated accent, behaving weird, bandaged head etc. But CGI? Nope. Don't believe this.

Next week, during the GDC, Hideo Kojima is presenting the Fox Engine and Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes in a long presentation. Today, he was in the mocap studio, and he brought a ‘secret weapon’ with him for GDC. It sits in a box which can be seen on the picture below.

It's a bigass FOX printer - the next generation of 3D printers utilizing the power of FOX Engine. Kojima will print out a nanomachine powered Joakim Mogren and our minds will be blown. Life is CG.
Kojima on Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes – freedom, pacing and stealth
Quote:
In Ground Zeroes for example, you are free, it really happens in real time. You are free to choose your own equipment, choose the route you want to take. All of this happens at the same pace as it would in reality. The stress is important in a game of this genre. We ourselves, when we play it for 2 or 3 hours, we are exhausted.
Certain players will be able to discover passages, in which they will find no enemies in their path. On the other hand, others will find less ideal solutions, and they will be forced to engage in action scenes. This is how we are working, asking ourselves questions, to find out wether it’s playable or not.
As far as stealth is concerned, you don’t normally just start in a building. If you look at spy and action movies, how the hero gets to that point is a very important part of the story and part of the action. Do they get there by plane or by some sort of disguise? There are so many different ways they can approach that element of infiltration. That’s something that we couldn’t really accomplish on the MSX or the first PlayStation due to technical limitations.
But now that we finally had the power of the PS2, that’s something that became possible. It’s something that I wanted to do very early on in the series so when it became possible I decided to try and implement that into gameplay. But my ultimate goal really is to give players even more freedom, not only to figure out how they’re going to get there but really have everything factor into it. So, do you want to get there by helicopter, do you want to get there by plane, are you going to ride in a vehicle or are you going to take a bike? Basically to have all of these options available to the player.
Up until now Metal Gear has more or less been set on one path like you’re on a set rail to get from point A to point B with a certain amount of freedom between. What I want to do is create a true open world experience where the player has all these options available to them and really limitless gameplay. That’s what I’m trying to accomplish with my next project, Ground Zeroes.
As far as the next generation goes, we can already be sure that in terms of visuals, sound and the processing speed, the framerate, all will be improved. So we will be able to express ourselves more easily. But at this moment, while working I say to myself that the next machines are also about the cloud, social, the ability to use different devices like the tablets, and it is with this in mind that I develop my projects.
My body is ready
