To be fair about the display - There are some smartphones out there with higher PPI but they look like shit anyways because of shit implementation of technology. Apple should be bragging about the display of the iPhone 5, but they shouldn't be focusing on the 'retina' non-sense. Of course, that is the marketing term idiots will understand.
Dem Apple Scientists and dat battery.

LG and HTC displays are rather OK. The problem is Samsung and its oversaturated garbage. In before the usual hurrdurrs "poppy colors are soe more realistic" or "my ps1 emo loox soe colorful". Apple's display, especially iPhone 5 and iPad 3/4, are very well calibrated.

My HTC ONE V has these yellow spots at the bottom corners. I'm not a tech fanboy and it doesn't really bother me, as long as the phone works, but objectively, this shit isn't supposed to happen.

Not all of Apple's displays are well calibrated (the monitors are aweful so I'm limiting this to phones). The iPhone 4S is decent enough and the 5 is very good, but the iPhone 4 itself is very, very undersaturated, which is no better than Samsung's oversaturated "popping" colours.

Their monitors are actually well calibrated to sRGB, at least the IPS ones from a generation back until now. Their thunderbolt displays use Dell panels calibrated to sRGB, and so do their iMacs.

No, Leo. Both the Cinema display and the Thunderbolt display (and by extension, the iMacs) are fucking aweful for monitors that cost TWICE as much as the mostly identical U2711, which is an infinitely better buy. Pretty sure I've said it before, but anyone buying an Apple display is a plain moron, as Dell sell the exact same shit at half the price and much better calibrated.

Delta E of 7 for the previous generation and even higher for the current one. And without a colorimeter, you can't calibrate them yourself that well either.
And it's no different on iPhones before the iPhone 5: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6330/the-iphone-5-review/15 which is the first properly calibrated display I've ever seen from Apple.

So the Aspire won.
MacBook Pro is just there because they sponsored the thing.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

From the article
Quote: |
The report went on to admit that it might be more fair to compare a cleanly installed MacBook Pro with a cleanly installed PC from Acer or Dell.
But there's method in Soluto's metrics: "We simply compared the real PCs in the field....We believe it's more representative of reality." |
So basically they are saying that they know their test was not fair, but they got results they wanted, so it's ok.

IMO I will never buy a Mac desktop. That being said, if I were fucking rich and had money to blow i'd buy the new Mac Pro. I think it's fucking nice. It's super small for what it is, and the way the internals are laid out is really cool.
It's not functional at all from an upgrade standpoint or cost effective at all. However, it is a cool solution for people that have tons of money to blow and i'd get it if I could.

Too much money just for tiny form factor I'm sure. Its pretty cool I'll admit, but I have plenty of room under my desk...
Also I don't think I see a PSU in there? A power brick then?

Like I said;
If you have lots of money to blow I think it's cool, and i'd buy it.
But as always you can build a PC for much cheaper.
However, you will never build a PC with that awesome small form factor and just how neat the setup is on the new Mac Pro.

Yes, you can. Most people just don't have the patience for it.

No, you can't. It is physically impossible to go on Newegg, or even build a custom case that will contain things the same way as this new mac pro unless you somehow are able to fab your own IB-E motherboard.
It is very small given how much compute power it has.

No, you can't replicate this exact setup, no. But you can get the same in a similar form factor. The W9000's aren't that big, PCI-e SSDs do exist, as do uATX LGA 2011 boards. The custom part in this is the fact that it's a cylindrical case. By the looks of it it also has fans at the top *and* bottom for cooling. This thing won't have a PSU inside, so Bearish is right in assuming it'll come with a power brick - again something you can get with the more expensive small cases as well.
So no, you can't replicate the exact thing, but the form factor itself is not that amazing. It's bigger than it looks you know
It's a pretty little thing and certainly a nice engineering feat. Still not worth it and mark my words: we'll see custom cases like this soon enough now.

I wonder how long it is before apple sue Spotify (and similar) for patent infringement.
