I gave it another shot with my upgraded rig(i5 3570k in place of the told OCd Phenom II 970 4.0GHz), FPS is still too low for my liking during actual combat, not what I would consider playable.
Settings don't matter, similar FPS on high/low, not a serious improvement over my old CPU.
I'll check back in a year or so and see if the "first person shooter" part of this MMOFPS is actually playable.

I got the same problem with my 3570k, oc to 4.8. Often way below 60fps, I just cba then.

Okay, so i have been playing more games recently than i normally would and i think it is about time that i actually try a mmo for the first time, until now i have stayed away because i prefer strong immersion in the games i play, and that is frankly not really possible with level of asshattery in these games i have observed.
But, because i actually like FPS multi-player game play, unlike multi-player RPG gameplay, this game sound interesting.
And again, But, is it in you mmo people's opinion worth it as a first mmo?
Is it fun even if you think grinding is about as fun as stabbing yourself with a pencil?(Not a masochist, FYI)
Can you actually get enjoyable action out of it if you are not an eagle eyed son of Horus that can shave a fly at a miles distance every time they fire a gun while wearing a blindfold?
And most importantly, are the people playing it, NOT dicks?(I'm led to believe that this varies from mmo to mmo)
If not, might i ask if there are any other Mmo FPS'es in the planning? and if so, can you recommend any?
Thanks in advance.

Btw, play the game in fullscreen, instead of borderless windowed (if this is your case) I noticed that borderless mode made this game unplayable for me. (all settings at max)
Turning it to fullscreen fixed the issues.

Believe me, I've tried everything, the game simply isn't running smooth enough for me to enjoy the shooter part.

Sadly, I've put this game aside indefinitely, due to untreated bad performance. The game is awesome and with potential to bet the best mass scale shooter ever. However, the developers insist on not working on the performance (and actively avoiding to talk about it) but rather on adding more content (continents, bases, vehicles, refinements, etc.). All that is great but what's the point if the game becomes a slideshow everytime there's 50+ people battling in the same area?

you got a good point. GU 12 and performance still leaves alot to be wished for. My main gripe with it is the lack of metagame etm. Still its a farily decent shooter and the best i got atm, a decent outfit(without any hardcore requirements) would go a logn way I figure soif anyone has any suggestions

They're gonna add the metagame (with resource management, and the resource resupplying vehicles, etc.), it's already on the roadmap. Hell they implemented the lattice system after listening to the feedback and the flow of the battles in the continents got much better. But I would prefer if they focused first on fixing the huge performance issues.
About finding an outfit, mine is still active but we're based on US West servers. The best place look is in the official forums where it's categorized by server/region:

Well, I guess they have enough payers who buy their crap to not bother with it. Kinda miss the game, but not enough to go back yet.
|
I have mid range Phenom II, a series of AMD cpus that were notorious for their bad performance in Planetside 2 during 2012. Bio Lab fights were the worst, but a lot of areas capped at 20 fps while CPU usage refused to go above 50%, no matter what settings I chose.
I returned to check out things around May and to my biggest surprise, this was fixed. I run nearly maxed out graphics with 4 GB ram and a HD 7770 and it's very smooth, also very impressive looking.
Amongst other things, they are implementing the lattice system for the other continents soon for a better flow of battle and eliminating ninja caps, they've balanced the populations on most servers, and started massive advertising so a lot of new players are coming in again. Last week Miller was full, meaning all 3 continents and the VR training realm were filled. 1 month before, only Indar was really full with Esamir having a sizable populations during peak hours and Amerish permanently deserted.
They've reworked most of Indar's terrain and a lot of facilities, they're much better now than they were at release.
I get the impression that the devs are really working hard to improve the game, but their team must be small. So meaningful improvements keep coming but we must accept that they can't do everything at once.
I definitely recommend everyone to give this game a second chance. It's a one of a kind, PC only experience, an FPS untainted by EA and Activi$ion and the devs look honest enough. There are still a few issues, like the new 3 man soft buggy being tankier than Lightnings, or recently there was imbalance amongst MAXs but these are relatively minor flaws to the complete experience.

They aren't unplayable. I also thought this but then I upped the sensitivity and gave it a try, and I started getting some kills with my uncerted ESF. It's just odd that you cannot control the camera but with good awareness and minimap settings, you can see the enemy.

Yeah, I already aknowledged all the good things they've been doing for the game, the gameplay has doubled its quality since release, one could say. But that still doesn't justify why they don't even mention anything about performance or give a hint of having plans of working on it. It affects way more people than it should, even some people with 4.8Ghz Core i7's + GTX 780 and the likes. I've ben coming back periodically (like every 3 weeks or so) to check if an improvement have been made performance wise, but so far no luck. Hopefully that'll change in the not so distant future.

I played too much space sims I guess. I just couldn't get used to the control scheme, with sideways mouse movement rolling the craft instead of turning it.
I used to hunt infantry with that AOE machine gun, but even that became weird. Never could used to the controls.

You can't imagine how many times I've done that, especially after a big update is downloaded.

Hossin looks like a big improvement. I didn't like the first map. Hossin due for a September release in a big patch.

Tnat's exactly what he means. The performance issues are completely random (but very well present and frequent), someone with a processor twice as good as yours might experience them while you don't.
I stopped playing weeks ago and plan to go back when something meaningful has been done about the performance.

I gave it another shot.
FPS during heavy combat - 30
FPS when alone, away from combat - 70
FPS when only a few player models are on screen, no FX heavy action - 45
Now, I don't know what other people's standards are like, but I do not consider 30 FPS playable when it comes to first person shooters, or any shooter for that matter.
I can put up with 40-45, if it's stable, but not 30. Never. I'm not a console player.

oh yeah its still great for majority of games, but stuff like planetside 2, ns 2, dayz and other arma 2/3 stuff, crysis 3 as you mentioned, the list of games it can't handle is rising. its especially noticeable in mp games, where you need higher fps then what can be enjoyable in sp.
