I used to be a hardcore P&P rpg player. Those were the days!

It´s never too late to start all over again. With two or more friends it´s game on. I´m sure some of your friends miss it. And I´m sure the wives/spouses will be happy their other half is only away playing board games/rpg/whatever, instead of boozing out in the city.
In usa they seem to be better at this. Poker nights and so on.

Anyway, I´m a bit interested in picking up Arkham Horror. Coop game in HP Lovecraft world. On paper it sounds amazing. Anyone tried it?
I have played it once. It's pretty time consuming game with complex set of rules. In four hour gameplay time, we were half way through the game. Overall pretty cool game with a lot of expansions.
But if you don't have so much time there is always Elder Sign, which is pretty much the same game but made for faster sessions.
@Nailbiter: Oh, now it's way too late. All my old RPG-buddies moved out of town. Also, finding new ones is hard work. Would it be a surprise to you that I'm kind of an elitist when it comes to RPG's? Most people play for the dice and the combat, I play it for the interactions between characters and the intrigue/story.
Settlers of Catan, also the variant where you play in Belgium/Holland (Kolonisten van Catan - de Lage Landen, for the Dutch peeps).
Also Carcassonne and especially Carcassonne Mayflower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World:_A_Carcassonne_Game)
To be honest, I'd play anything as long as I can annoy other people with gameplay strategies and I have someone explain the rules to me, rather than going through the manual
Elder Sign is like putting needles in your dick throughout the entire game and then hoping you can pull them all out at the end.
I saw that, but hoped it was just a little exaggerated, since most of the amazon reviews are good
No, it's a good game. Don't get me wrong.
But that is basically what the game is. It's pure anxiety and complete shit as you await your ultimate doom. Impossible to win game with certain conditions, and I refuse to play it with the easy pussy mode conditions.

Hehe, still sounds interesting. i'll see if I can pick it up today. I need a coop game badly since my gf is a sore loser, which basically means even if I win a game I ultimately lose
Just played my first game of elder sign. It's a lot of fun, however the rules are sometimes not 100% clear. We've run into some questions we can't seem to figure out, maybe someone here can help..
So if I have an adventure with an arrow and 3 tasks, for example:
1. 2x terror
2. 2x skull
3. 2x scroll
And now if I have to add a monster to that card, it will be added as the last task so if the monster has a 3 dice requirement like:
Scroll Skull Skull the complete adventure would need 9 dice to complete. However, there are only 8 dice so this adventure would effectively be unsolvable, correct?
Edit:
And a question regarding the hint marker (footprint thing), imagine the following scenario:
I roll 6 dice and fail at the task
Then I remove one dice and roll again with 5 dice
I continue failing until only 2 dice are left, however I need 3 to complete the task. Can I now use the hint marker to roll 6 dice again and go through all the motions again, or is it just for the last roll so I can only roll 3 dice again?
Sometimes they add some errata to the manual or just explain stuff in FAQs.
