Yup I reinstalled it too some days ago and there were only a couple of bots-free servers with good ping..too bad because the game is so much better after the updates.

Interview with Tripware's president:
Quote: | I’m really discouraged by the current state of multiplayer shooters. I think that, and I hate to mention names, because it sounds like ‘I’m just jealous of their success,’ but I’m really, I feel like Call of Duty has almost ruined a generation of FPS players.
I know that’s a bold statement, but I won’t just throw stones without backing it up. When I was developing Action Mode [for RO2], I got a group of people that I know that are pretty hardcore Call of Duty players. And my goal was to create something that was accessible enough for them to enjoy the game—not turn it into Call of Duty, but try to make something that I thought was casual enough but with the Red Orchestra gameplay style that they would enjoy.
And we iterated on it a lot. And just listening to all the niggling, pedantic things that they would complain about, that made them not want to play the game, I just thought, “I give up. Call of Duty has ruined this whole generation of gamers.”
It’s the gameplay mechanics that they become used to. The way that players instantly accelerate when they move, they don’t build up speed. “The weapons really don’t have a lot of power” [in RO2]. They’re all very weak. The way they handle… They’re like: “I hate Red Orchestra, I can’t play it.” Well, why? “Because the guy doesn’t move like he does in Call of Duty. Call of Duty has great movement.” Why is it great? “Because it just is, I just like the way it works.” So you don’t like the momentum system in Red Orchestra? “Yeah, it sucks, it’s clunky, it’s terrible.” Well, why? “It’s just because I’m used to this.”
And really, watching some of these guys play… one of the things that Call of Duty does, and it’s smart business, to a degree, is they compress the skill gap. And the way you compress the skill gap as a designer is you add a whole bunch of randomness. A whole bunch of weaponry that doesn’t require any skill to get kills. Random spawns, massive cone fire on your weapons. Lots of devices that can get kills with zero skill at all, and you know, it’s kind of smart to compress your skill gap to a degree. You don’t want the elite players to destroy the new players so bad that new players can never get into the game and enjoy it.

+1
FPS games like Quake/UT/... required you to have some skills to be good. Now a 6-year old kid can grap a nuke and kill all players instantly...

Retards like you are the reason developers like Tripwire are fewer and fewer. You love to shove 14+ EUR to Activision for each pack of three shitty maps, instead of supporting true PC developers. Let Kotick bukkake you, you fully deserve it.
PS: just do a little math and see what Acticivion would have charged for the Killing Floor free DLCs (maps, weapons, etc.). Yeah, about 35+ EUR more...

Good, it means that the game is actually brokids&360noscopeaddicts free
Tripwire made some mistakes with RO2 (bad performance for many users, different gameplay from RO1 etc), there's no doubt about that, but at least they tried. It's not easy to release a hardcore mp shooter these days for the reasons mentioned above, we have to give them credit for that. Besides, the game is now perfectly fixed and yes, quite brilliant and satisfying.

I’ve tried some of the new maps, and I have to say that they’re pretty good; also after the bundle the servers are full again. If you haven’t played RO2 for a while, now is a great time to do it.

My buddy actually purchased it for me and him, it's fun but holy fuck most servers I join lag so bad.
Server browser shows decent pings, you join and it's like 180. You take one step forward and two steps back and kills are delayed.
Still fun with friends and a decent team.

Goddamnit, I should have bought the game when it was a dollar...I missed that HumbleBundle completely.
EDIT: Oh I see, it's a standalone.

Now I just need someone who is able to gift me Rising Storm. I don't want to have the cut version - which may even lead to cut my uncut RO2 version.

Rising Storm is ace. Bought it this morning before the pre order runs out on the 30th and been playing the beta all afternoon.
Game rocks. I completely suck at it even in action mode. So going to take some learning but love the game, the mechanics, and grafics are just awesome..... And you gotta love Jungle combat in WW2.

Someone gifted the ROW version to me. Downloading now. Saw a video of the beta and it really looks nice and it totally seems to profit from all the bug/performance fixes of RO2.

Is this new one just as heavily camper based as RO2? I'd think the jungle terrain would limit the all too common across the map sniping present in the previous one, but I'm not so sure.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Hahahaha, Rising Storm shits all over RO2. I'd never thought I'd say this, but it's true. Because the guys behind it, mind that it was just a mod at first, have put actual thought into the maps. It's just great. It's even more polished in it's friggin beta than RO2 ever was and is.
PS: Yes, I hate RO2... friggin CoD piece of shit with free-aim... and the cover system still sucks monkey balls and will get you killed because it's so unreliable.... nvm..
