Don't want to spend more than 70-80€ for the mainboard and 20€ for the cooling Smile

*Am not going to overclock*

I have 3x2GB 1333DDR3 RAM, do I need 1666 RAM?

He doesn't need those phases since he's not overclocking.

I'll look when I get home

even at stock 4+1 gets pretty hot VRM wise, saving 15 euros for a quality wise big step down board like the 970 with 4+1 isnt worth it. i understand he doesnt want to spend more than needed and doesnt need fancy OC features, i would still strongly suggest to buy a proper board with a high end CPU.

Oh, what is the problem with the phases? tbh I heard of them for the first time :/

The main reason I am looking for the FX 8350 is that I want an actual upgrade to my Athlon II X4 640 (4x3.0), which is horribly outdated and sub par in cinema4D and games, but quite affordable at the same time. The alternative would be the i5 2500k but that costs the same and I'm not sure if it makes any sense getting that one, as it is some years old.

2500k is still better CPU for gaming than FX 8350.

I can not imagine that my 6950 1GB will be able to over power a 8350 anyway Smile

Which game benefits from a 2500k over a 8350 and especially, how much? Laughing

Pretty much every game since they are made for 2-4 cores. Difference can be very big (lets say Starcraft 2).

Huh, I looked at a bench for Starcraft 2 and there was virtually no difference?

Hm... the i5 3470 looks like a good deal too :/ Damn!

And for cooling, get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Put it into my moms 970@3.5Ghz and it runs it really cool.
So for less than 30€ it's an ace cooler.

if you don't overclock, then just use the stock cooler.

I usually switch them out (the stock coolers) but then again Sin is right, if you're not going to OC it then just keep the cooler. The one for the FX6300 that's in my sisters computer is working just fine (however cool 'n quiet is on and she never maxes it out).

Bleh, the stock coolers always tend to be loud as hell Sad

Amds have gotten really quiet. I used 2 recently and never heard them run. The 8350 cooler comes with one that has I think 4 heatpipes

hm the one on my 640 is quite loud... Maybe I need to try it. Costs only 5€ more so who cares Smile

Still, intel seems to have some competition in the same price range... ohh, the dilemma Sad

good luck finding good intel boards at that price range, and if you are so strapped for cash maybe go for the FX6300

budget cpu = budget heatsink

8350 heatsink

Also what paintface said, the 6300 is still the newer piledriver

Since he is not overclocking, he can get intel mobo very cheap.

For a non-K Core i5 CPU, you don't need nothing better than a B75 board, and e.g. Asus P8B75-M costs like 60-70 euros.
