Combat was pretty terrible and I can't see how people found it to be even good.

The overall mouse controls are not even close to being as smooth as they should be in a shooter. Bioshock 1 and suffered from the same problem but since the ranges are much longer in infinite and the enemies way more plentiful it became a much bigger issue. Also the AI is terrible and is even worse than random CoD game.

The AI does nothing but straight on bum rushes you and you can't help but wonder if they care for their own life even the slightest.

The weapons had a poor feeling as well and a lot of them were pure garbage. Why use anything but Carbine/Sniper/Hand cannon? The explosive weapons are all trash and are among the worst ones in any game i've ever played.

This game is so fucking overrated, my god... i mean the game looks awesome i love the art and attention to detail, the atmosphere is great and the story is decent at best...

But the gameplay is a fucking chore... did anyone actually enjoy it?

6/10 for me not even close to a 10

I went back to B1 and the shooting feels weak as shit.

+1 Smile

Well I would not rate it 6/10, maybe 8/10, but for me the gameplay was really just 'meh'.

In terms of game play i think it was average. I think some enemies have too much hp. Why dude with rocket launcher can take so meany hits from sniper rifle in head. I know that he have helmet bu you can shoot helmet off. I think that they instead of making complex AI they just give some enemies a lot o HP, enemies usual have basic tactic, like Patriot he walks in yours direction and fire. It's more difficult to find ammo to kill him then killing him Wink.

And we have standard weapons rifles, machine guns, rocket launcher... Limiting players 2 guns have negative effect on game-play... you end-up using guns you don't like or guns that not very effective in current situation.

I agree with you. Regarding the story, the majority of it is told at the end of the game. Before, it just a basic shooter with powers, guns and explosions. I'm more immersed in a story when I'm actually the actor. And god, the 15 min cutscene after the finale boss, it was very long.

That's just on hard. On medium, the enemy hitpoints are like an order of magnitude lower. It's just that Booker's are an order of magnitude higher and the silliness remains.

How many sniper rifle headshots does it roughly take on normal to kill a rocket enemy?

I think 3-4 shoots helmet is removed around 60% hp i'm not sure, one shoot in head all normal enemies. I understand that some enemies have special power... but this guy just have rocket launcher.

I might be bad shoot Wink. Point is that guy with rocket launcher have few times more HP because he have rocket launcher.

Combat was more than appropriate for me (Hard) after I tuned up the mouse controls/sensitivity and FOV to my liking. Honestly I found it very balanced and involving as long as I kept changing guns/powers at every encounter in order to make the shooting part less monotonous.

It's true though that enemies could have been more varied overall and skylines should have had a more "crucial" role in the gameplay (they seemed almost gimmicks at times), but other than that, I had a great time with the game. Razz

What do you mean more weapons?
There 7 guns in the game - Pistol (2 versions), Shotgun (2), Machine Gun (2), Sniper, Grenade Launcher(2), Rocket Launcher and a special Chain Gun.

It feels so empty compared to Bioshock 2, where every of the ten guns had 3 alternative ammo types.

And you can only carry 2 at any given time..

Hmm I thought the weapon arsenal in the previous Bioshock games were much smaller, I must have forgotten, I do remember the alternate ammo types now that you mention it though.

The arsenal was larger in Bioshock - but the actual feel was horrible. Rooms were tiny and long range weapons were nearly useless. The crosshair was HUGE - and mouse sensitivity was crap no matter what you did with the settings.

In Bioshock Infinite - aiming and shooting feels just right and since I always go for "regular" weapons - I had a great time with the Carbine and the Sniper rifle.

To my mind, it's an infinitely better shooter than Bioshock, pun intended. However, I do concede that I miss hacking and the ammo types.

But Bioshock was a joke compared to System Shock 2 in terms of mechanics, so I guess it's just another level of derping and mainstreaming.

The shooting is not the impressive thing about the game, though. It's the level of detail in the levels and the way you're part of a fantastic and engaging story. The sense of being in that world is immense and goes beyond pretty much everything I've played in that way.

People who go into it for the shooting primarily will obviously not be overly impressed. The shooting is good (great, even) - but it has nothing on the best in the genre.

If you don't care about story and immersion - then the game is somewhere between good and very good - I'd say. But calling it crap or a bad game is most likely a knee-jerk reaction based on the hype.

Well, I already said it in my review, the shooting is far from excellent. It actually is the weakest point in the game, though that's not saying is as bad as it can be. I think we can find much better examples in games today of what "bad shooting" really is. Shooting mechanics in the first BioShock weren't espectacular either, but then again, that's not what this series is about Smile

Obviously, it all comes down to personal opinion. Lots of people think the shooting is great and lots think it's bad. There's really no way to say what's true.

I actually knew right before I turned around that they were going to basically do it, but it still scared me. Reason I sort of expected it was because they locked down movement until you turned around with your mouse, so I knew there was probably something like that that was going to happen. Only scary portion of the game really. I still prefer the first Bioshock as it had far more horror elements then Infinite. The only reason I enjoyed Infinite so much was mostly due to how well the setting/environment/artwork was executed.

The only minor detail that really buggs me in Inifinte are the switches, FUCKING SWITCHES!!! How the fuck do all switches operate when you pull them down, and then you immediately pull them back up again.. Very Happy
