Sure. But this is a small company that I think has been stagnant for past few years. They are not doing any large projects, only design small to medium size systems.
Interview I had last week, they had pretty big and nice office, newer equipment, etc. I could clearly see picture what company is going forward, and which one is going backwards.
I don't think there will be much of opportunities for me in there, and the place is really depressing. But I am still looking forward it. Get 1-2yrs of experience and get out of that sinking ship. I have no idea how those guys have been in business for 25 years now :\

I might have done something that I might regret soon.
But, you can't lose if you do not play.

Yup. 31K for starting salary just does not cut it. I'm sorry but that is too low considering the amount I have spent educating myself. I asked for 42K, which I think is the most fairest starting salary.

I think you should take anything even remotely connected to your trade as your first job, even if it lasts for e.g. six months. Studying for years is nice, but there is much more in business than just your knowledge. And no matter how much you know your trade when you graduate, you will learn A LOT at your first job because practice can be very different than theory (unless it's a really shitty company).
I work as embedded dev (low level Linux and U-Boot h4x0ring) and before this job, I thought I know much about Linux... lol what a mistake it was Buggy hardware, buggy software, bad or nonexisting documentation, wrong informations in datasheets, tight deadlines, outside "partners" throwing all job to you... it was stressful but I learned a lot (especially on the business side and how it works behind the scenes) because there is stuff you can't really learn without a pressure and on your own, no matter how much you are interested in it.

take the job. You said yourself you don't have any work experience, so be lucky you got a job period. At least in a year you can add work experience to your resumé and get a better job.

congrats mate!! It is a nice start! 40k a year for the fisrt job is indeed very nice, even in NY. I know for example a top young lawyer who is making 200k/year, but, as a Lawyer, she is hard exploded and after 5-6 years, they will discharge her and she will unable to find another job (because all law firms hire the young ones to exploit them).

I was about to virtually slap your ass when I read about the 40K..that was unexpected.
If you even try to ask the same question here, you instantly lose the job and get kicked out from the room with extreme disgust and indignation. Congrats

Him receiving the job with the desired salary is most probably due to the situation of having a small 10-person company needing capable staff to either expand or stay afloat in the current market offering viable ideas and services. Had it been a larger establishment, his proposal would've been most likely turned down.
Anyhow, congratz, hijacker. |
Wrong thread?
This is brzztkaboom's thread after all.

Blasphemy! Anyhow, since I started to work there, I was still actively looking to jump this sinking ship. I can't stress enough how shitty this company is and going there to work makes me want to jump off that 8fl building. I just don't understand how this company has been in business for 25yrs :\
What pisses me off the most, there is literary no room for career advancement at all. Before I know it, few years will pass and I will still be working at this shitty company with shitty pay.
Took a sick day to go for an interview at another firm. Hope it plays out.
