|
 |
I tried google but nothing works for my problem:
So a friend of mine's ASUS N37SM (or something) Laptop had a REGISTRY ERROR BSOD ..but he said he wanted to format the Laptop to start all fresh
So i went to his home with Windows 7 AIO 32/64bits and installed him the x64 Home Premium..The PROCESS in the installation was to format the OS's Partition (there was another one called "DATA" ) and install the fresh W7 there..
Everything went OK ,installing drivers and a W7 activator...just like i do with my PC Rig/Tower... until i had to restart the system...So i did the restart and the ASUS Logo appeard for a couple of seconds with the white lit light behind it..then all of a sudden the screen turns off and turns on again after a couple of seconds, showing the ASUS Logo again...Rinse and repeat..
I tought the typical format and reinstall the OS method from my Tower would work on a Laptop, but i guess i was SO WRONG....
Is there any solution for this?.....

Firstly, get into the BIOS and turn off the logo so you can actually tell actually whats going on. Also, are you getting any beeps from the internal speaker?

i just remembered that after the logo there's the blinking " _ " at the top left, the HDD is set to start first..the DVD Reader does a "Clack" as in "Trying to read" .
i'm not at his home now so i can't do anything..and no,there's no beeps from the internal speaker when booting (BIOS wasn't touched at all, i remember it was the first INITIAL BIOS comparing it to the ASUS site)
The kid is a newbie/Noob and installs anything that comes from stuff he wants (Example...Skype would install Bing if you don't untick the box that makes Bing to get installed)...

Solution is to re-install Windows 7, just make bootable USB stick. Also make sure you delete every single partition and format the drive, then do new Windows partition so it does properly the system partition (its around ~100mb in size). The system partition can sometimes fuck up during installation, therefore OS wont start.

Again, this was the 1st time i formatted a laptop and tought the process was simple, but it WASN'T THE SAME...

Well, usually on these laptops there are hidden (recover) partitions and you enter some kind of key combination at POST where you get access to it. I'm guessing the DATA partition you deleted was just that.
So an FYI for next time so you don't delete it. ^_^

Sorry, then I misunderstood... I thought you deleted that partition as well.
Check on ASUS site to see how to get to their own recovery part since it depends on manufacturer.

The blinking " _ " means the computer is trying to find something to boot from.
Installing Windows on a laptop is the same as a desktop, the only difference is there will most likely be a recovery partition, like Prefetian said. Really you should have just pressed the function key at start up and recovered the laptop via the recovery software on the recovery partition.
When your friend gets the laptop back tell them to use Asus's backup software (i'm assuming it has some) to backup the recovery partition to bootable disks.
