Something about that review really puts me off. The game looks okay but
a) it's linear
b) it's heavily scripted
c) it looks very very consoley
d) I suspect poor graphics on PC as well
e) the movie was very very meh
Star Trek to me is about dialogue, solving dilemma's, etc. and is more suited to adventure games or RPGs. An all-out action game might work but it will never feel very Star Trek like. I had the same problem with Elite Force 1 & 2 - decent shooters but practically zero Star Trek atmosphere. On the other hand, A Final Unity, DOS adventure game released in 1995, had spades of atmosphere and was brilliant.
For a modern game, they could have made it like Mass Effect (not the shitty sequels) with free planets to explore (but done properly), with side quests that were like episodes, with stuff to discover - and with an over-arching story line covering it all. Throw in some puzzles to solve and you got a kick ass Star Trek game. This, however, feels like a Michael Bay game - lots of action, lots of scripted sequences (how many times does the asshat reviewer use the word "cinematic"? If I want cinematic, I'll go watch a fucking movie) and in the end, the game just shovels you down a preset path and tells you to jump and you jump it seems. Very yawnworthy ...

Does this game have Dr.Spock and Admiral Kirk?
If so then it's star treaky enough even though it's a shooter.
May the force live long and prosper.

Played about an hour or so (down on the planet, met the survivors, a bit after that). Very meh. Animations are Bethesda-esque, textures are terribad, models are the usual quick-movie-cash-in quality (they resemble the actors, but are wooden as fuck, even corpses have more expressive faces).
Other than that, it's just an uninspired cover-shooter set in the Star Trek universe. But since the weapons are pew-pew derpness, instead of the original phaser effects we all grew up with, not even the setting can really salvage it for me.
The only half-decent idea is the use of the tricorder, you can scan some things for XP, but other than that and a few tired minigames, it's nothing special.
I know...shocking.

The Final Unity is one of my few original discs. It's a very impressive DOS game that was demanding for it's time, but it's got everything a Star Trek game should have, including original voice overs by the TNG cast.
An older but similar game that's also quite good is the 25th anniversary, set in TOS, with good adventure elements.

Gotta say I'm enjoying it. Music and voice acting (with the exception of Uhura) are amazing and the shooting isn't bad. As a huge Star Trek fan, I'm happy with the fact they didn't make a horrendous game. Nice story hope there are references to it in the new movie

Not a must buy, but definitely not total crap. A mediocre TPS. 6-7 score wise I guess.

It takes place before the first movie and the new one. No direct relation might be a reference or 2 in the film.
Definitely not crap, but not worth the $50 price, def a rental to beat in a weekend.

No matter how bad it is, at least it's better than the movie.

From what little I've played last night, while the game is really linear (especially in the beginning; still felt better than RE6 since it let me keep control in the actual game), I found it really interesting. This is yet another forced quick cash-in by a publisher I think, while the actual developer could have done so much more. The music is really great though! And the visuals are nice too. It looks old (that's not equal to "bad"), but quite good.

Is this even worth it ? I mean the latest "Star Trek" movies were jsut a fucking crappy mainstream additions to Star Trek franchise. If this game is same blant Storyline only with cool looking graphics and pew pew lazors (Read that it does not even have the good graphics?!), than its a disgrace, yet again :/

Oh my. Anyone who says this game isn't too bad is praising the game too much. What an absolute mess of a game. I wish I was trolling, but I'm not. Only for absolute Star Trek fans I'd say, because there are no redeeming qualities in the gameplay and the graphics & animations are just extremely dated (with some very questionable textures that have no place in today's standards even in the console versions). The whole thing just feels really unpolished. At least the characters somewhat look like their real actor counterparts though. Not as bad as Walking Dead Survival Instinct, but on par with Aliens Colonial Marines. I guess at the very least, they try and break up the action with a few hacking mini games.
