Turns out Jupiter Ascending might have some competition after all in the summer blockbuster category Cool Face

Written by the screenwriters & director of X-Men: First Class (Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn), directed by the director of X-Men 1 & 2 (Bryan Singer) and starring the cast of both the original X-Men trilogy and their young counterparts in First Class, it has a good chance of righting the wrongs of the latter installments of the franchise.

X-Men: First Class was a weird reboot of the series. At first I thought it would be a silly prequel starring young X-Men in Xavier's school, but it turned out to be mostly about young Xavier & Magneto, a pair which is always interesting to watch.

Its canonicity was unclear. The film began by reusing some frames of the original X-Men film but it ended up doing its own thing and even contradicted the original movies.

Now X-Men: Days of Future Past attempts to bring the two universes together. The comic storyline on which the movie seems to be based uses the element of time travel/alternative futures so I can see how they will attempt to do that. In fact director Bryan Singer said about the film:

Quote:
"It's epic. I don't think people realize how big this movie's going to be. We get to bring both casts together. We've cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That's why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible."

Returning cast:

From the original trilogy:

Quote:
Patrick Stewart - Xavier
Ian McKellen - Magneto
Halle Berry - Storm
Anna Paquin - Rogue
Ellen Page - Kitty Pride
Shawn Ashmore - Iceman
Daniel Cudmore - Colossus

From First Class:

Quote:
James McAvoy - Xavier
Michael Fassbender - Magneto
Nicholas Hoult - Beast
Jennifer Lawrence - Mystique

From Both and all the Spinoffs:

Quote:
Motherfucking Hugh Jackman - Wolverine

Yay or nay?

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

I've been reading up on this and how closely it's looking like following the comic version ... I have to say, as an X-Men fan, this is sounding great. Then again, I admit I'm rather biased since I've loved all the X-Men films so far; yes, included The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine.

Are those considered bad by people usually? For me there hasn't been a bad X-Men movie yet.

Anyway, I can't wait to see James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as mutants again! They were so great in First Class! And of course, Hugh Jackman, the man who was born to be The Wolverine!

You only have to look at Wolverine's claws in Origins to know the movie is poor. Sad

Surprisingly yes, Last Stand and Origins were panned Sad Shame too as I really thought they were great. There was FAR too much CGI in Origins though and a lot of it was pretty bad, especially the final battle with Barakapool >_<

It was the weakest one, but I must admit, I didn't find it that bad. Razz The fact that I was tipsy when I went to the cinema probably contributed, though. Laughing

I really enjoyed First class and this seems like a good idea. I think I may prefer a "First class"-cast only. Because I suppose they will have a difficult time managing all the characters and giving them enough room for development.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

good news! we can expect one x-men movie per year, as it is with marvel and their avengers. insta megahit and a good profit is guaranteed, even if the story is retarded as with the latest spider man.

I thought X-Men was alright.

Not so sold on the third or Wolverine (although I wouldn't say either were Batman and Robin terrible)
