We need a second gaming PC. My wife is occupying my current gaming machine Very Happy

Current Setup:
Athlon II X4 640 (3.0GHz x 4)
6GB DDR 1333
Radeon 6950 1GB
Biostar AM3 Mainboard

I already planned on upgrading that one, but instead I'll just build a new one.

Price limit: 400€
Intel I5-3440 (3.2GHz x 4) 170€
MSI Z68A-G43 (G3) 60€ (or can I use a cheaper one? at least two usb3 and 6 usb 2 are mandatory, so no micro atx)
8GB G.Skill 1600 54€
Cheapo midi tower 20€
Thermaltake 430W 39€
---
~ 345€

Now there is room for a gfx card for like 50-60€. Of course I'm going for ebay, as I was quite lucky at the time when I bought the 8800 and later on the 4850 Smile
The card I'll get from ebay will go into the Athlon rig and the 6950 will move into the Intel.

What card can I snatch from ebay that'd be a good fit for my Athlon? I guess I won't be lucky enough to grab a 560 eh? :/

Sadly the 8 core amd fx didn't seem to offer enough bang for the buck Sad They were only faster in cinebench (which I consider to be very important) but tbh, even if they render twice as fast as my current cpu, it still takes ages so I won't be satisfied with the rendering speed anyhow Sad

Mind factory is actually cheaper than alternate.de so here are their prices:
Intel Core i5 3470 4x 3.20GHz So.1155 BOX
€ 163,96*

ASRock B75 Pro3 Intel B75 So.1155 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX Retail
€ 56,94*

8GB GeIL EVO Leggera DDR3-1600 DIMM CL9 Dual Kit
€ 49,84*

Zalman ZM-T1 Mini Tower ohne Netzteil schwarz
€ 18,77*

430 Watt Corsair CX Series Non-Modular 80+ Bronze
€ 39,79*

---
~ 330€
So 70€ for the GFX card Smile

4870 for €30 BIN?

GTX460 for €51 (ending in 2 hours, bids)

http://www.ebay.de/itm/MSI-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-460-Grafikkarte-PCI-E-/151037917935?pt=DE_Elektronik_Computer_Computer_Graphikkarten&hash=item232a8fbaef

GTX460 at €11.50 (ending in 5 hours, bids)

~edit~

Oh! and fuck that crappy i5-3440 off. For €170 that's nuts!

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Intel-Core-i5-2500K-3-3GHz-Sockel-1155-SR00T-BOXED-NEU-B-Ware-/151019199468?pt=DE_Elektronik_Computer_CPUs&hash=item2329721bec

i5-2500k for €170 BIN. At stock clocks the 3440 (and 3470) Ivy will be 5-10% faster in synthetic benchmarks over the 25k Sandy due to the slightly improved architecture but I doubt you'll even see 2-3fps difference in games. It's also not manually overclockable so you'll be missing out on the ¤1 reason to get an i5/i7. The i5-25k is clockable and will do 4Ghz on air, netting you an astonishing performance boost.

There's an i5-2500k being sold as used if you want to save €20 and put that towards a better GPU;

Yeah, I know about the great 2500k but new it costs just so much and with a used one I really fear that some wanker heard about the great overclocking potential and just overclocked it until it took some damage Sad

Well the one for €170 is new and the one for €150 claims to still have the receipt and warranty from Amazon that's less than a year old.

It also says "New", so likely B-Ware is ex-display stock.

~edit~

Either way, I really wouldn't recommend that 3440/3470, not in a gaming system.

1.5v+ starts to be suicide, everything up to 1.45V is just fine for 24/7 if cooling allows it.

Hence "+++" Wink I still wouldn't run 1.45v on air cooling, regardless of what cooler it is. However - that's not the point, the point is the non-K chips can't be manually clocked (and Turbo Boost is a joke) so it's not worth investing in one of those as a gamer. In my opinion, naturally.

Suicide runs are 1.55V+.

Ran it for over 2 years at 1.5V-1.52V without any sign of degradation.

Then booted with 1.8V and it died in about 30 seconds lol

THAT is suicide Very Happy

Did you manage to validate the result before the CPU's death?
