Yeah sure would be nice to try to get these companies who unfortunately keep creating broken record cliche MMORPG's to make games we want to play. Agreed. Hopefully they'll listen to the community. Of course it's easier to criticize the game than it is to actually help them improve it so I guess this thread will have lots more whining. Not like I've ever tried to help Cryptic though. lol

From all the alphas and betas I was in (and I'm a good reporter) most simply don't care or put in the time. Which to some bugs is reasonable, since they aren't priority.

Tho one company stands out for me and the last time someone took the time for my bug report was from Blizzard in the US beta. A dev came and have a chat with me, asked me to recreate the environment, tested it in different areas. thanked me for the time and said they'll have a go at it. Next push it was fixed. (And it wasn't the only time I got contacted during the US beta)

Not saying it is the only company out there that does it, but it is certainly one of the few that uses betas to get some stuff fixed. Just look at most MMO's out there and the level of polish is far away from Blizzard's standard.

What Sin said about reporting, please everytime how futile it even seems report. You never know they might actually fix it and if they weren't planning to the more people whine the more likely they can't ignore it.

However feel free to bitch and whine even if it's in beta.

Well, my attitude is that if the game is something I care about - I'll report any bug I come across that's not so trivial that a million people have already reported it.

I don't have good experience with Cryptic games - well, not since CoH (which was pretty good for what it was) - and I knew what to expect with NWN. I tried it anyway - in closed beta - and it was even worse than I could have imagined.

I'm glad people are having fun with the game, and I think they should definitely speak out and praise it all they want.

However, on a public forum dedicated to the discussion of games - I think both negative and positive opinions are equally relevant.

Then again, I don't take it personally if someone hates a game I enjoy. If they think bitching about it is worth it, I say have at it.

Why would that affect my own personal enjoyment?

The only way that could happen is if they're actually right and I was afraid to discover that the game did, indeed, suck.

People should feel free to speak their mind. The only thing I don't care for is irrational or deceitful input. That's not useful to anyone.

Browsing the quartertothree forums I see several positive mini-reviews about the open beta. (currently at page 12) I will certainly be trying the game soon. Too busy with GW2 lately. Shocked

My thoughts exactly, positive and negative opinions should always be heard, they plus my own experience form up my own view on the subject.

Even when not agreeing to the negative or positive views of others, they make you think about mechanics, directions or whatever you may otherwise never had a thought on.

It's when the emotions take over that usually it doesn't contribute much but it's safe to say that we are all guilty of that one time or another

My view on the game so far (Bit worthless since me and my GF only did the starter stuff)

Enjoyed it, but it all looked a bit cheap: animations, not enough polish of overall systems, gear looks a bit bland, but then again it was only the beginning. Needs a ranger/hunter (well that is my GF's class ).

It is free so for that you get something nice, but I'll have to see in the future how much it will restrict everything else. Usually cash shops turn out that you need to spend more than a subscription.

I recently started to play GW2, so I bet I'll be playing that more. Maybe I end up with NwN to play together with the GF untill she either buys GW2 or we find some other MMO we both enjoy.

edit : and checking the forums would also reveal, that those kinda maps are banned and people who keep reuploading them will get punished for doing so.

Weak man. You are too damn experienced to believe its still "beta". While they may say its beta, everything else screams of an official launch. F2p games have done it for years, the cash shop is open, so its not a beta in the normal sense, and the way we are used too. I'm very surprised to see you of all people be so blind, and use the excuse but its BETA!

Its clearly not, its beta in words only. Very clever market ploy though, seeing as people in here are still fooled in that regard and immediately use the beta argument.

Ofc you should always report whatever bugs you encounter.

spot on mate, i cant believe ppl still fall for this.. fp2 "open beta" has always been " just went live, send us your moniz plox" and bascily no more gameplay addition/tweaking than any other sub based game that has a "hard launch"

one would think actual TESTING would mean sending out tons of free shit to see if it behaves as it should BEFORE accepting real life money for it, so this really isnt testing. its money grabbing with a nice excuse "oh its still beta , you will suffer from various problems during this period"

Sin, seeing you are a lot more cynical, and self righteous to the border of a superiority complex the past weeks, wouldn't it be better to just take a break?

Of course you do whatever you feel like, I just notice that you are more radical then your 'normal' behaviour lately. Or just unleash it all on me/someone else in one go so you get it out of your system

A friend of mine is pushing me into playing this so I figured I'd actually give it a go. I'm getting a bit bored of WOW anyway, so I figure its worth a try.

One question though and ideally I'd like a non-bias opinion on this! How much money is needed to actually play the game. From what I can see you need money for respecs (which is irritating as fuck) and keys to open loot chests (although these seem like they can be ignored).. Anything else? What am I getting into here?

Read this, it explains it all in great detail:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Neverwinter/comments/1dry0g/neverwinters_f2p_model_what_you_need_to_know/

YMMV, but it's pretty clear that the game intends you to spend some money. Nothing is strictly speaking P2W, but by using money things become MUCH more convenient.

You don't need to spend any money - but.... if you want any of the special features, you'll need to save up AD (astral diamonds) and convert them into Zen. Then you can buy whatever you want.

Good ways to get AD is daily foundry, daily skirmish, daily dungeon, and daily PVP.
You can also get a little bit from professions once you level them up.

The ration right now is about ~420 AD for 1 zen.
So a respec, which is 600 zen (6$) is about ~250k AD.

Some pets cost beween 2k-4k Zen - so saving up the AD for them will take a long ass time depending on how often you play.

Spending money only speeds up the process, but you don't have to spend a dime for anything if you're willing to wait/work for it.

---- BTW, does anyone know when they are adding additional classes? I know the ranger class is coming sometime, but any others?

It is not only speeding things up, zen items are to expensive to earn through grinding, to lure people to the zen market.
There is a 23k (ish) diamond maximum a day also to make sure that players will not farm to many. Good luck playing the game 70 days straight for a pet.

As for playing for free: I enjoy leveling the game (i enjoy is as a nobrainer hack and slash with some multiplayer, not brilliant, but fun), zen items are not needed, most are vanity, some can be handy (bags, respecs). I have no clue how endgame is, but cause off the zen market gearing up will be a bit silly is suspect (why play for days to get a couple dollars worth of items)

Liking the game itself, bosses are more than tank&spank at my level (45) which is nice. Was planning on getting some basic stuff from the shop until I saw the inane prices, so I've decided to not spend a damn dime on it, ever. Haven't felt inconvenienced at all from that decision while levelling, but from what I hear the best enchants will run you ~160$ at end-game, so...

The matchmaking-system is really horribad, takes upwards of 30 minutes to get put into a group and it just tosses in classes at random. Trying to do a ~45m dungeon with 3 rogues, a great weapon fighter and my control wizard was rather painful and we had absolutely no chance at the endboss (7 attempts -.-)

You get 2 extra bags from the story quests, at 20 and 30 iirc.

All in all, it's a decent timewaster imo but definitely not worth spending money on. Will give it a few days at max-level and see how the epic dungeons are, and then most likely find something else to play as that's when I expect their pay2win really starts kicking in ^_^

And yeah, the game isn't so bad. Its more hack n slash then anything, but thats a good thing in my book haha. Also they did a lot of things right. And alltho i am still rather low level, never did i feel that i had to buy anything so far.

Ok a few things to help in your decision. One they have gone with a soft launch by doing this open beta which means you wont lose your characters and bugs are to be expected. My mini review or pointing out the things I like about the game so i'm not going to focus on the bugs that I may have encountered and non have been game breaking. There was a time when rpg's and mmo's depth was simple when it came to combat and this games feels lke it.

- Lots of customization when creating your character (race with racial bonus, class, deiety, slider bars, etc...)

- Graphics (somwhere between diablo 3 and wow but more on the darker side of things and not so much cartoon) state of the art no but I like the atmosphere

- Music is descent and hasn't been distracting actually i've been to engrossed with the game to even notice the music i'll have to pay more attention but if I recall it's your typical fantasy setting kind of music

- Combat is fast and furious and it's not target based it's where you aim your reticule which I am loving alot and you can swap some abilities later in the game as you level

- Itemization I wont go into too much details but I can comfortably say the loot train has got it's grip on me

- Economy ( a bit like wow where multiple currencies can be used to get gear items you can play the market via auction house or even using the exchange to trade astra diamonds for zen) Market fluctuation based on demand

- UI seems to be pretty modular so you can shift things around to your liking.

- Questing an dungeon runs ( Questing is definitly more traditional but I dont see it as bad sometimes old is good depending on the schenario some stories are weak while some I've gotten engrossed in the lore of it. Dungeon's, Skirmishes and PvP can all be accessed via their respective zones or can be queued for and you can queue for multiple instances at once as in one of each category. They are only 5 man grouping and I have to say i'm happy with it and anyone who's played wow 5 man will like it.

-Foundry (so i'm adding this because I think this is a big selling point and makes this game stick out compared to your typical run of the mill MMO. Basically once you hit level 15 in the game you get access to the Foundry which allows you to do user generated quests/dungeons or create your own for the community. Smart from a business point of view and great for consumers who invest the time.

I'll leave it at this there are alot of things I can continue to delve into but if you have questions for me let me know i'm a good 30+ hours into the open beta now so I can probably answer any scheptical questions. Also remember all of this is from open beta. I say you have nothing to lose to give this game a try being free to play and as someone stated you can play the game and not spend a dime though after a day of playing I spend 60$ and got me the founders pack to support them.

Many things i don't want to miss anymore.

First thing was back at GW2, where everyone got his own loot and exp. So no kill stealing. That feature probably was before in other games too, but i didn't play them.

And since Neverwinter i want that Foundry/Forge system in future games Crying or Very sad Was before too in City of Heroes, but never played that too. It's cool that you can create new maps, npcs and dialouge. Not just simple kill quests on existing maps.

Maybe in the future, we will see that quest system in GW2..................................

No point of even trying to play if you face rogues. Control wizards are not behind with their ridiculous CC

I think ill just make a rogue just for the pvp lulz

If you really like it and plan on playing it a lot, the $60 founders pack is pretty good if you don't mind throwing down the cash. The 110% speed mount and training alone would cost about $50.. throw in the pet, weapon, etc.. They say it's $120 value or whatever. I typically will buy a founders pack on games if I like them enough. If I don't, it seems I end up spending more in the long run.

And yea, PVP seems FUBAR right now. I play a Guardian Fighter and I am endlessly CC'd it seems. But it's beta, so hopefully they will balance PVP. I usually play a rogue in MMO's, so I'm likely to roll one in this game too.
