Ok, since I really cannot figure this out and I was not able to find anything on the net, I am going to ask you guys. Basically When I bought my XPS Machine from Dell I got it with the home edition because it was like $100 less, so I've been trying to replace it with ahem .... XP Pro which is not purchased Laughing ...anyway, everytime I reformat and get everything ready for install, the system basically gives me "cannot find any harddrives warning" and cancels install.. I tried about 3 different versions all tested and working on my other systems, and I cannot find any way around this. Can anyone please help me because I really want to upgrade to pro asap .

Thanks mucho!

Try doing a factory format on the HD's. By the sounds of it, there's some 'hidden' stuff (XP home) installs still on the drive preventing this from being overwritten/ deleted with a normal format.

you could always try it on another HD or maybe a partition.

ok by looking at that site, it seems like i am doing everything right (i am definetly not new to formatting hehe) ...

basically my process is, setup bios to boot from disc, delete current partition, make new partition from all unused space, format to ntfs and start the installation. With pirated windows on this new machine only everything goes well up to that point where the files should extract to my hd to prepare for install. All versions I tried gave me the same "hd not found" error and stopped the installation.

If i am missing something could you please give me few more tips on how to go around this or if I am doing something wrong?

thanks again for all the help!

Are your drives SATA ? If so you will need additional drivers to be loaded using F5 during the setup to use the HDD's.

As this is a new machine and looking @ dell's website I'm sure this is your issue. Go download the drivers, put them on a floppy and press F5 when it asks you to during the "blue" setup screen.

Then you need to load your RAID drivers, you should have them on a software disk of some kind, or you should be able to download them from Dells website !

i think since both drives are combined by raid to one but separated by partition, when i try to load pro on the c drive wthout wanting to loose data on d it conflicts since d is still running home edition ...i need to format the whole thing .....lot of backing up to do i guess SadSadSad

If they are raided both should be formated as they act as one disc. 2 discs becomes 1 disc and gives more speed.
That is the purpose of raid....

You might have SATA RAID to so maybe both SATA and RAID drivers will be needed?
